A great school kit resource pack. My class and I had a ball participating in the Walk the length of NZ event. People donated their steps from our local area of Ahipara and Kaitaia to as far as Christchurch and Australia. My students had a go at measuring their own steps (so good for their maths learning) as well as they were super excited about how many steps we could collect. Well done School kit crew another awesome resource which got not only our students fit but also our whanau and friends in a fun way. Keep up the fab work!

In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? Unfortunately with the lock downs etc we focused on this just within our class rather than across families also.

The learners loved getting out an active particularly as the weather was great. We linked this with Maori language learning the names for various locations around NZ in te reo.

We want to collate the huge number of steps from accross NZ, please share your final number with us. Sorry we haven't done these yet will be doing it in week 1 of term. The children find it hard to get their families on board so we will ask the school to help us. The students are interested in seeing how they can improve their fitness.

Unfortunately, with building works at school and being in level 3 lockdown my kit arrived quiet late to me and so we didn't get to finish it but will be continuing next term. The students are excited to see their fitness improve and to get family involved too. The resources are great and clear to help us with this project.

I completely revamped your kit and planning but my class loved it and really got into it. My class do not have phones so we didn't have access to Apps but we did have 9 students with fitbits. We measured their steps and activity for a week. That way we were able to make up a model that others could roughly work out their steps too. (Eg If I did rugby training, bullrush for 40 mins bike to and from school I was around 20 000 steps. We had 4 levels to choose from daily) Each student filled in their daily steps on a Google table. We mapped NZ learning lots around the country and they couldn't believe it when they worked out they had walked the length in a week. We created Fitness posters with links to new fitness games and we got out and played heaps of them. To be honest it was a lot more manageable and high interest doing it within our class rather than involving busy families on a specific day. They did get involved heaps though by supporting their active child. Many parents commented on that to me. Last time I did this students had individual fitbits from your kit which made it easier BUT this till worked really well. Thanks

Excellent resource to get kids active and to learn about NZ geography. Children thoroughly enjoyed collecting up steps and competing against each other to get the highest score. We did struggle to get enough devices to count the steps. Combined the kit with researching about places in NZ and their iconic features eg Gore and the Trout.

The class were excited to have a challenge to complete that involved learning outside the classroom. We found it difficult to get enough 'sponsors' but we found a way around it. The shoe laces and certificates were well received - thank you. It linked really nicely with our term topic of why NZ is special and significant landmarks. Thank you again.

In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? All of the children asked members of their whanau to participate. The students wrote down their whanau members steps and brought it in. We had all of the classes out doing some extra running around games that day, and the office staff went for a walk at l
We want to collate the huge number of steps from accross NZ, please share your final number with us. We took an average number of steps per person, as lots of us didn't have step counter apps or fitbits. After doing lots of measuring, we established that an average primary school age child does 10,000 steps a day. Some will do more, some less. We had 320

This was a fabulous kit for integrating maths and PE. We even had a visitor to our class who is actually walking the length of NZ - doing the Te Araroa Trail. She visited us on the day we were counting our steps, which was amazing. We are going to follow her progress, so it's ongoing learning.

In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? My class were engaged, but I found it hard to connect with the wider whanau. We had some buy in through out Syndicate Facebook page, but most of the action was left to the class of 31 and the school staff .

An excellent resource We had hoped to tie it in with a few scheduled interschool events, but bad weather and COVID curtailed this. Our maths workshops benefitted from the measuring/converting/estimating tasks, making it highly engaging for all students.
