I really enjoyed the maths behind this kit but for some reason i was excited pedometres so i was confused to begin with. Once we got into the kit my class really enjoyed the challenges both physical and mathematical. They say goals individually and as a group.

In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? Students encouraged their peers from other classes in the whānau to get involved. They also got their families out walking more / being active to increase their steps.

The students really enjoyed this Kit as part of our learning context! There were a range of activities to complete, including practical activities. I feel like it could be better suited to a warmer Term, but equally enjoyed it taking students outside and being active in a cooler season.

In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? We used it as a way to explore many different ways to communicate. The students chose methods of communication that they weren't as competent with and use this kit as way to practise it. Some wrote emails, some made posters, some wrote a message to go int

This followed really well from all our Cross Country training that we did but then didn't have the event due to Covid. This kit kept the children motivated to use their training and keep active for a real purpose. A lot of the families commented on how much they enjoyed being involved in the event with their tamariki. We were able to link our maths learning into this kit and many literacy skills.

We are still working our way through the kit. We have made a good start but now need to reach out to our community which we plan to tie in with our learning next term. So far the children have worked really well to problem solve, estimate and measure. I like that the kit is really cross curricular.

In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? As not all our students returned to school and they don't have pedometers, we tried to get each student to include at least 1 other family member or friend while others managed to get a few other friends or family members to join. We managed to have 20 s

The kit itself was good however, as we were in lockdown in Auckland - as a class we weren't able to do this as well as we planned. There also weren't a full class set of small brochures to share with family and friends in order to get them to join us but we managed.

In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? We produced the flyers around the school and took lots of copies of the flyer enclosed in the kit so we could have as many people as possible taking part. We even put an advertisement in our school newsletter asking for help with donating steps.

Class 7/7 were really engaged and loved asking their whanau to help with this school kit. We didn't reach the length of New Zealand on 22nd September but we all had fun trying to get as far as we could.

A great, end of term, unit to engage students and keep them motivated. Nice to continue after cross country training before hitting the crazy of term 4 athletics. It was nice to see students engaged and lots of family involved in the challenge. I would love to do this unit again.

In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? Nil, my students were not motivated to involve their families/community. Call it end of term tiredness and year 8 apathy.
We want to collate the huge number of steps from accross NZ, please share your final number with us. Haven't counted all up yet, that had to be left for start of next term. We definitely did not walk the length of NZ though.

Ended up being a bad time of the term at our school, with a rescheduled school production happening too. Many of my students didn't have fitbits, smart watches or phones, neither did their families. We tried measuring strides but it was not as accurate. Also unbeknown to me, many of my year 7's had done a similar kit last year at their primary school so weren't that captivated by it this year. Found it hard to motivate student's families to be involved with.
