In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? There was a good link to our literacy programme. Students were learning persuasive writing skills so this was a good fit as the students were asked to compose letters to friends and family asking them to assist with our step count.

“My students thoroughly enjoyed tracking steps on the map. We had a day where friends and whanau could donate as well as a day where the class and some parents went for a long walk (albeit it was a cold and drizzly day!) We are not at the end yet, hopefully after the holidays we will have some more steps. A great way for the students to get active as well as learn and have fun.”

“My class really enjoyed participating in these activities. Due to Covid19 the lessons were implemented in a short space of time and not followed directly. It created interesting and authentic learning experiences in Maths. We also used some of the concepts in our whole school Maths Week. Alone my class did not manage to walk the length of NZ this time but are very keen to try again next term! As a school I feel like we were very successful and have come away with some valuable resources and learning, both staff and students! Thank you for giving us the opportunity to be part of this experience! Very rich and rewarding learning!”
