In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? We didn’t have time to engage the local community but we engaged our school community.
We want to collate the huge number of steps from accross NZ, please share your final number with us. 30 x 10,000 = 30,000 steps in total for my class X 10 classes = 3000,000 steps.

Sorry to be so late with my feedback...holidays got in the way! We did a mobile photography challenge within our school for two hours after we worked out that 300 odd Yr 7s walking for two hours doing an activity, would’ve walked the length of NZ. It worked very well and we thought that if we got the kids doing something at the same time as walking, it would help to spur them on. A great pack and thank you for the opportunity.

It was awesome to get our kit and open together. The tauira were excited to see the stickers and hear about how we could work together as a community to achieve our steps. Thanks also for the few small prizes as they allowed some motivation to be sparked. We were able to integrate a lot of pāngarau into our learning as well as tuhituhi as we worked out estimates of measured steps and wrote creatively about what we saw on our travels.

In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? A few parents helped, some by in on Facebook through one of the parents. Other classes were interested, but it was a busy end to the term.

A fantastic resource, it fitted perfectly with our identity unit we are doing this year. I had hoped to tie it in with our cross country, but I didn’t work out the dates well. It took us a few more days to complete as it was the end of term and production, so struggled with by in from the parents. Would definitely do again and recommend to others. As always, well planned with great resources and easy to use!

We have a lot of fun joining together as a team, playing different activities to accumulate our step count.

In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? Hidden gems that came out of using the kit were, students' appreciation of other students walking to support us, discussion about honesty, students donating steps to others who had not made their 10,000 steps and the encouragement given to each other

students thoroughly enjoyed the kit; measuring steps and making estimates of the distance by averaging class steps; creating posters using canva; presenting our goal to other classes and staff and encouraging them to donate steps; asking whanau to join; sending emails to people they have interacted with throughout the year. They soon realised that signing up 278 people seemed like an arduous task let alone the walk.

In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? Getting in touch: Students asked for the help of their whanau, friends and neighbours to donate their steps, asked teachers and management in our school too. But didn't reached out to the community so much, out of shyness and also because we ran out of ti

all were motivated to do more over the days leading up to the date we had chosen (24 September) and they were amazed at how much they do already when able to count their number of steps a day - students with step trackers lent them to classmates. Many of my students walk to school and/or to activities after school, sometimes quite far.

We had cross country this term and had walkers for practises. We chose to do our 'Walking the Length of NZ' day on the Wednesday the 16th of September. It was great to involve parents and grandparents. They sent in their steps.

What a fabulous resource. Our class had a fabulous time planning how this was going to happen at our school. This included making up posters and facebook feeds using Canva, reaching out to our wider community, working out how to use spreadsheets to keep track of our donated steps and of course giving out encouragement to get our steps up! Everybody had success and fun working together! Thank you School Kit our class would defiantly recommend this!
