This was awesome as it tied in well with our Measurement unit in class. Some things were tricky like actually having solid data... some kids were a bit silly with their info.

In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? Students had to explain the challenge to people in the community and ask them to donate their steps.

My students and I found it very difficult. We brainstormed ways to count our steps and due to the lack of devices such as tablets, phones, smart watches and having no pedometers available we had to think of a manual way to count our steps. Although our manual system was ok, it required all students to understand and participate fully. got up and walked lots, we asked our friends and family to donate steps. However a lot of the students didn't quite understand that all the steps had to be done on the same day, and got their steps donated before we even started. Overall I think tasks like these are more suitable for schools with mobile devices.

In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? The kit engaged our class to realize how far we were collectively travelling each day for fitness, but also how far that translated as a whole. Often we were running a collective 30-60km a day We converted the tracks we ran Ranging from 245m through to t

We approached the task from a slightly different perspective. Could our daily warm-up runs around our school and new bike track add up to the length of NZ? Could we collate the distances from each session and then plot them on a Google Map and slideshow to show where in Aotearoa we would go? Could we then have to find things to do in the town/city/paddock that we found ourselves in and discover something about the places we haven't yet been to (But because of Covid,, we might visit sometime soon?)

In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? The previous kit was great, but this one not so much.
We want to collate the huge number of steps from accross NZ, please share your final number with us. We didn't end up participating for a number of reasons, the craziness of term 4, and also the kit was quite hard to understand and wasn't as straight forward as the previous walk nz kit.

In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? We have a video on youtube if you would like to view it that shows exactly how we encouraged our whole community from young to our very very old. Those fit, those unfit. Some even walked and recorded it. You can see that here on our video: https:

Tena koutou School Kit, Thank you for a magnificent Kit that provided some interesting lessons in the class with our Year 7 &; 8 class and teacher Whaea Alexia Jacobs and the Teacher Aide Matua Fatu. In terms of in class work, it was great, we mapped out our school, we created a 3D birds eye view of the kura, calculated and converted steps as per the teaching plan, very great ideas for in the class. In terms of setting up an event as such we found that we had to use our own common sense and devise our own strategy plan. We found that we had to create our own certificates and they turned out better than the ones in the pack Whaea Ani created them, they just looked a lot more formal and had all the icons from School Kit and Walk the Length on it. We found that some of the activities did not really correalate to how to set up such an organisation as such and we had to create and follow our own format on what we would usually do to run such a big community event as such. We required lots of permission forms for council consent to conduct this out on our main highway, we had to get REAP Traffic control to come in and help with our roads all of which were not included in the pack. We also had to develop our own systems on how we would collect the steps and we weaved this all in to our School Cross country day that needed to take place as timetabled in our yearly overview. The review page does not have an area to upload a video of our evidence therefore I will have to send it through to Emma to peruse. However, we absolutely loved the kaupapa that came out of this huge event and we tried our very best to push it in our community and make a huge effort. Thank you school kit. Whaea Ani (Leader of learning in Yr 7-10, Event Organiser for Walk the Length of NZ Community event) &; Whaea Alexia (Yr 7 &; 8 teacher that taught the unit). Whaea Shirley (Yr 3&;4 teacher of this School kit as well).

In what ways did this kit encourage your class to engage in community collaboration? Our school is in the middle of a park and we encouraged families to be part of this and have a walk in the park.

A great resource to getting students active, linking it with maths lessons. Unfortunately we didn't reach the lengths of NZ, but we tried what we could do and enjoyed it. Thanks again, School Kit.

What a great kit - and a great idea. It would be nice if we could time this at different points in the year that may suit with the school programmes (or potentially different seasons).
