In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? We were able to make links between the different water sources of Tauranga Moana and the students connections with these.
My class really enjoyed the kit, we are fortunate to have a great conservation space here at Otumoetai Intermediate School and my students were intrigued to investigate the water quality of the stream that runs by our school and the resources and materials you provided were perfect for the task. We appreciate your help!

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? This integrated well into another unit we were doing on plants. It linked well with the importance of healthy soils and why it is important to preserve healthy land and waterways.

What opportunities have arisen for future learning from this kit? We are currently only part way though using this kit. I have really appreciated the hands on learning opportunities it offers. I intent to reuse the resources included in the kit with other classes in the future.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? I have given a neutral score as I have not covered this in any detail with my class yet.
It was wonderful to have the resources included in the kit which enabled us to look closely at samples of water which I brought into school. The location of our school and EOTC requirements meant it wasn't possible to visit streams etc. in our local area.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Students developed and understanding of how and why water was significant to Te Ao Maori. They learnt about protected water ways and ways in which they can help out.
The water testing unit was a great resource for my students, they were able to make connections to everyday issues. They enjoyed the hands on aspects of the unit.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? As we haven't had a chance to test the kit yet we haven't been able to use the data we will gather for cross-curricular learning in the areas of Maths and Scienc ebut to date we have use the kit as a base for research and writing.

As well as planning to do the water tests next year I'm keen to continue this topic by: relating what we have learnt to a global context-asking my students to research and present on key global water issues, and looking at the cultural importance of water

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Here in Otaki the river has been and still is an important part of Te Ao Maori. The kit has helped to reinforce this concept and has helped some students to understand Ptaki River's significance.
This kit is a fabulous resource! It is well thought out and we can't wait to use the equipment (due to the weather we haven't been able to carry out the water tests but will definitely be doing this next year).

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? This kit was able to be integrated through out all of the curriculums. Some kids went digital and other used the Arts to show their learning.

What opportunities have arisen for future learning from this kit? Working with the local council and community to ensure we are coming together to problem solve the environmental issues. Learning from our elders and them from children - Tuakana /Teina relationship.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? We are the guardians or kaitiakitanga of our planet and together (with all cultures and indigenous peoples we need to take on board the values of māori and look to the past for how it was done.
Water testing kit We used this kit later in the year as part of our measurement maths unit. My students I found enjoyed the hands-on application of the learning we had done in the class. I liked that the kit had step by step instructions and had everything in it that we needed. Understanding of the Significance of Water in Te Ao Māori: We discussed in our class that water is important to all, and in Te Ao Māori we are guardians, water is not ours to own and we should treat it as we are borrowing it. Cross-Curricular Learning Lots of measurement based maths Reading Writing Science Health Future Learning Opportunities Creating a guardian of the stream programme with our council is a possibility. Getting the students to understand what needs to be done for this to happen.

It can depend on ones culture or a variety of other factors like where you live, urban or rural, experiences like a user of town supply water or home tank, or also what recreation
This kit was a great hands-on experience and was great for taking students out of the classroom into their local waterway.

The varied tools and resources that challenged the students to investigate our waterways as they are significant to our area and Iwi, in which they were able feedback to our local community their findings.
I highly recommend this kit and resource. The students found it very engaging as well as exciting with all the tools and resources supplied. It was all new learning to the whole group that took part in the unit. Thank you very much for the opportunity.

What opportunities have arisen for future learning from this kit? We are continuing with our enviroschools work with a group of students and continuing our planting project and some students have shown an interest in testing the river at different times of the year and different locations to gather data over time.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Central Otago is a community that relies hugely on water for farming, growing and leisure. Water quality We also tied in with this unit a waterways planting on a local farm. Our students are very aware of water supply and water quality issues now.
We have had some great feedback from students, parents and the wider community about this project. On our river visit we were filmed by The South Today and a video clip appeared on the ODT site. This raised a lot of interest in the testing we were doing!
