In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? This kit was extremely relevant and supported our learning around Kaitiakitanga. When students noticed the paint in the stream we were able to extend further on this learning, highlighting our importance as guardians.
This kit was fantastic. The students were all excited for our field trip to our local stream and were fully engaged in the activities. The equipment provided was exceptional and made preparing and carrying out the tasks easy. As the stream was across the road from school, the testing was relevant to the students and their community. A number of students continued to check on the stream as they walked to school some even noticing a day when someone emptied paint into it! This has lead to ongoing learning and work around our environment.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Used kit as part of inquiry so integrated all areas of curriculum. Was a great vehicle to promote the integrated aspect of the curriculum. During term 3 the class had the opportunity to go to our local Art Space and view an exhibition about South Island

What opportunities have arisen for future learning from this kit? Access to our local waterway was difficult and it meant lots of organisation. I think if we had a closer waterway to access the opportunities to keep following through would be greater.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Children brought some prior knowledge and the water kit supported and developed their ideas further.
On reflection I think that this kit would have been better served for us in a summer term.

What opportunities have arisen for future learning from this kit? For us it followed on well with our environmental schools work. From here we also got in touch with our local council and Horizons and under took another stream study with our senior class and one of the middle school classes

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Excellent in the way that the students got to know and understand a lot of Maori local place and river/stream names around our local area.
Found this kit a lot harder to navigate with 29 students. Next time i would really engage a small group of students with it.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? There was alot of actions that were required of the tamariki, especially the recording of the information, the testing taken at meter intervals, the understanding that data can change even in that short distance.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Especially the lack of any life form in the stream that we were testing, we didn't really find anything alive.
I found that trying to do water testing in the middle of winter was a tad difficult with the mud and the cold and the fact that rivers were prone to be a bit flooded. The saftey issues were more pronounced during this time. The kit itself was awesome, except we kept loosing our magnifying glasses, and because of the time of the year, it was a bit too cold to be in the water for too long looking for it. Im sorry, I can't review this kit as I didn't end up using it. I started the year with a different age group and then after the lockdown I came back to a different age group studying different things so didn't actually get to use the kit at all. I have put it aside to revisit next year. Sorry about this, I love the school kits, (am currently using the online, offline, inline kit and it is brilliant!!) Thanks very much for your efforts.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? It raised awareness about how important it is to maintain healthy bodies of water in Aotearoa in general. The link to cultural significance was weak.
The water testing kit fit in beautifully with our inquiry unit of water sustainability. We explored the components of the kit and how we would use it to test a local body of water. However, due to the lockdown, the water testing trip had to be canceled.

Linked in well to our local enviro focus. Liked the way the testing activity was introduced through school activity first as it made the stream experience more focused and easier to access.
