“What a highly interactive learning kit the 'Water Kit' has been. The tasks have been clearly linked to science and environmental issues. The tasks are very hands-on and have encouraged our children to respect and make use of the local river and lakes. I would recommend this kit to other teachers and believe it is ideally suited for Year 5-8 children.”

“This was a great kit with some very important learning. The only part that was quite challenging for our school based in Pukekohe was being able to find a stream/river that was close by.”

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? We did a Karakia when we entered the water, and were very pleased with the water quality of our local stream at the park we play at.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? A little, but was done mainly from a Scientific practical investigation point of view
“The water testing kit allowed students to go out and about testing Lyell Creek at different stages of it as it progressed towards the sea. This enabled students to see the changes in the water quality as a result of where it was passing and possible human/animal made pollutants that had an effect on the water. Gave students ideas on water conservation and how to possible prevent pollution getting into water, and wanting to make the community more aware.”

“this kit had so much potential but unfortunately it came with many barriers. Equiment failing to work, RAMS forms, 1:4 ratio around water, no prior knowledge to fuel off of.”
