In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? This is something im passionate about so was easily encouraged, accepted and incorporated.

“I used this kit with a small group of kids. Logistically we had trouble so could only take a select group of kids each time. This is not a kit error, more a geographic issue for me! Each group I took absolutely loved it and it was helpful having a smaller team rather than a whole class situation. They really loved going through the different classifications and analysis of results. It was great for them to not have access to the internet while we were there so that had to relying on using the information given to find the different insects etc.”

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We did some research into waterways and sustainable uses with water thanks to the school juniors articles &; connected books. The kids also looked into water catchment and design and what innovation could come about to support our marine life.

“This was awesome!! Students loved being engaged with the science concept of the learning. As we had just finished learning statistic prior to starting the school kit kids were able to apply their new knowledge with their data. We’ve also had students asking to keep up with the monitoring for the rest of the year!”

“When I requested the pack I had a year 5/6 class but at the beginning of Term 3 was changed to a Year 3/4. I was able to adapt the kit to suit the younger group and build their enthusiasm for keeping our waterways more clean and what we can do for our area. Thank you for another great teaching resource.”
