In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Students are now aware of other points of view, such as how water is an important aspect of Te ao maaori
Myself and the students really enjoyed this kit - they loved being involved in the process, and getting to make and explore the equipment they would use. They also had a great time at the water and I saw students collaborate and support each other’s learning in a way that is not always available inside the classroom. The increased awareness of local water health was a definite result of this resource, and building on this learning will be exciting.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? This kit coincided with a visit to the Tongariro Trout Centre in Turangi where the educators supported us with our water testing and developing the students awareness of cultural significance.
Thank you so much for the NZ Water Testing kit, and for giving me an extension on the time frame. My class had an opportunity to visit the Turangi Trout Centre on the Tongariro River so I arranged with their educator for us to do our water testing while there. The students had such an adventure carrying out the tests. We looked for invertebrates by rolling rocks over and using a net - this was in the Tongariro River. We moved to a stream to carry out the rest of the activities. Thanks again!!! Room 19 Taupo Primary School

What opportunities have arisen for future learning from this kit? We came up with a couple of ways we would do this different next time for our school, which included doing the same experiments in different streams, different areas of the stream e.g. closer to the sea and a long way away etc.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Provided an open lense to the uses of the stream and others like it for difference people in our community. A great example was one of our Teacher Aides who was on the look out for water cress and explaining this to the students.
Awesome, after a little bit of hard mahi getting everything sorted, we had an amazing time at our local stream. Very positive feedback from the kids and the public passing by talking to us about what we were doing. Thanks for the opportunity and allowing us to do this a little later than requested due to COVID restrictions. Fantastic!

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Students linked the water testing to locations where Māori may have lived remotely and the importance of clean water supplies downstream from other settlements.
This kit was amazing. The students really loved the learning and we forged wonderful links between the Auckland water crisis and the water testing. Students loved the practical, hands-on components of this kit. The cards are a great resource that I will be printing and using again in future lessons.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? To be honest, we ran out of time to take the work to this level.
The kit was well stocked with the necessary tools to complete the work. Cards were clear and robust on-site. Instructions for filling out the sheet were hard to find. Links to Pinterest are hard to follow. Nice to have a design challenge included. All in all a well-resourced kit with lots of skills for the children to learn.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? This is kit is perfect for us as it ties in with the River we have adopted but also the Water conversation order (lodged by Ngati Tama ki te Waiponamu) that is currently being resolved around Te Waikoropupu springs the taking of water for the Golden Bay r
This has been a great kit and has tied in really well with the work our school does with our local river that we have adopted. However due to Term 3 being such a crazy busy term we have still not made it to the river yet. We have it planned (again) for this week and hopefully the weather plays along. The kids have really enjoyed this kit and learnt a lot (even without the water trip). Thank you again for another fantastic kit. I apologise for the late feedback but I was waiting for the trip to happen (which it still has not).

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? This built on work we did in term one on our pepeha and mihi as we made connections to land forms around us. Students were able to identify the importance of water to them and within Maori culture.
Students enjoyed the real science in this experience as they were able to apply and use it in real contexts - authentic learning.
