In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? This continued to develop our knowledge and encouraged us to make links to find out more.
This kit provided us with excellent in depth hands on activities and learning which is always the best kind. It was very successful with the students and the activities are such that we can do again and again, it was great that we could explore the stream we relate to as our class name, Mangatarere. Our visit to the stream was successful and is something we intend to revisit and so again as the seasons change, to see the changes in the stream.

What opportunities have arisen for future learning from this kit? Hopefully, we can revisit this area in the warmer months as it is an area that is utilised for a lot of our kids. Being so close to our school I hope this could be an area that we can take care of in the future.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Were able to link to our local area and why early Maori settled where they did in our area.
Great kid although was limited with the amount of flow in the creek at this time of year that we wanted to study. Will be great to be able to use this again at a later date in the similar area.

Hi there. A great range of resources was provided. It was fantastic to have the experiment cards with all the instructions as i laminated them and they were able to record the results on the back. You provided all the equipment which made it super easy to organise as well. One thing you could add is the litmus water testing, for another experiment. Some of the experiments could be a bit easier to work out..... the gravel test was a bit hard. Overall a great kit.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? - Looking at water through the lens of a pepeha was great - the children were able to see that bodies of water grounded people - they were landmarks that never shifted. THey were source of survival. We discussed water as a taonga and how important it was
Great kit - straight forward to put together and the children were really engaged by being able to get out into their local environment. Inspired my group of children to think further afield - and the impact of not looking after our water can affect people in other places. It was great to review our pepeha and the resources provided and the clear links to water as a taonga fitted perfectly with our inquiry learning concept of kaitiakitanga.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? We learnt about Kaitiakitanga seperate to this kit so we were able to tie in our knowledge of this and develop our ideas further.
This kit has loads of good ideas, almost so much that the tasks seemed unachievable. I think the year 4-8 target group is quite wide. The content tended to lend itself more greatly toward the year 8 students than the Curriculum level 2 and beginner level 3 students. My plan was to adapt the kit to make it work for my year 5 and 6 students. We were going to pick and choose activities that suited our level best. We are currently working through the design process and learning about what this is. We are still planning on creating a device that can see underwater. These tasks take a long time to achieve so the time frame I feel (especially with Covid) has been quite tight. We had planned a stream trip but unfortunately due to Level 2 Covid we have had to cancel this.
