In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Students could see the connection between Te Ao Maori and western science methods. They made connection between being guardians of the local waterway and stream health.
An awesome kit to bring some solid science in the stream exploration. The students enjoyed learning about the different measurements and measuring different parts of the stream. They made connections between the measurements and the creatures in the different parts.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Coming from a farming/rural environment students are very aware of the significance of healthy water. We have looked at the sea as an inquiry topic and the impact of pollutants in the sea, so it was great to be able to transfer this across to other waterw
Upon reflection it would have been good to do this in summer as we had to delay lots of times just because of the wet weather. Also it was really cold working in the stream at this time . We used a small team of 5 who were interested in waterways. Four were year 4 and 5 students so they found this quite challenging.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Still to to be determined but the link to the Whanganui River article really help scaffold this complex idea for our students.
The FIND, APPLY, PRODUCE structure is so beautifully aligned with teaching learning to learn and our school's own learning cycle. Expert group cards were extremely clear and beautifully presented. The kids loved creating their own prototype and conducting their groups' experiment. We are still analysing the results of our river health and are excited to see what opportunities these results can open up for our kids' sense of community and belonging.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? It was really great the way it links to the pepeha that the kids do at the beginning of the year. We also found some great whakatauki that linked in.
This kit was really useful in regards to raising awareness of water health. In particular how to tell the health of a stream with a few simple checks. The fact that it cam with all the equipment needed was awesome, although we did have issues with the water clarity scope leaking and not being able to see anything through it.
