In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? We linked the kit to creating our own pepeha and told stories of our local rivers
We liked that there was some flexibilty with this kit. As we weren't able to get access to our stream last term, we were able to use it in conjunction with our Estuary Monitoring Programme. The tools in the kit added another area of interest for our studemts

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Through doing the stream investigation, it prompted discussions around the use of water and how different cultures value it in different ways. The kit itself didn't lead to understanding the cultural significance of water.
The kit offered students the motivation towards wanting to know how to use the different tools within it. It- tied in nicely with our studies about fresh water and connecting with our local whenua and awa. Invertebrate identification would be more helpful if there was a picture resource to go with the descriptions.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? I think that the Kit will create a better understanding of the significance of water in Te Ao Maori.
This is great resource. We looked at visiting Puhinui Creek I unfortunately did not get to take my students out to use the kit due to various reasons: Covid and a change in how we taught Science in school. Science specialisation was not in place for terms 3 and 4. So as a Science teacher I had to work on resources that were suitable for the whole school and as our Theme was around Market Day we looked at Food Safety. I do intend on using the resource next year. I do apologise that this has not been done as expected.

Due to the timing of Covid we were unable to use the kit for the purposes we intended it to be used. We got interrupted with the requirements to the situation of this year. This maybe something we will hold over to next year however we haven’t had final decisions to what the year will look like. It will not let me summit this without the below requirements so I have just ticked the first box of each however this isn’t a true reflection due to the issues we have had.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Students gained an understanding of the importance of wai for various groups and how we all make use of the same resource differently.
This was probably my favourite kit that my class have worked with. Hands on and totally fitted our topic of local waterways. Students gained a comprehensive understanding of the local ecosystem and were able to identify examples of these on our trip.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? We have been using the Whare Tapa Wha model to discuss hauora as it relates to our class and individuals, so this kit enabled us to transfer that understanding to apply to the health or hauora of our local waterways.
We really enjoyed all of the opportunities that this kit provided. It was relevant to the students and our local area and it had plenty of practical activities, with everything included in the kit.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? It helped us to understand the significance of our local stream for local iwi and how it connects to our school pepeha.
This was an excellent resource for promoting our students' understanding of their local water systems. We are lucky enough to have a creek in our school but unfortunately due to a slip on the bank our access has been limited and we haven't been able to use the kit to its full capacity yet. Our stream is mentioned in our school pepeha so using the kit we were able to further delve into the significance of our local stream to local Māori. The Topo Map was extremely helpful for understanding how our school creek connects to wider water systems around us, helping us to make stronger connections to our local area. Overall the kit was an amazing resource for studying an environment of local significance for our setting and we were really grateful to receive it! Thank you School Kit!
