In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? As part of the unit of inquiry we have addressed this with the students. They began to understand the different uses as well as the importance that water and land play for different groups especially the Maori people.
The children loved using the kit. It gave them the chance to have a meaningful hands on experience. There was a lot of cooperation with them working in groups and talking turns. A very beneficial kit. Thank you so much.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Using the topograph website was helpful to learn words in Maori.
It was a great concept for a school kit, however I found this one difficult to implement. There were lots of activities that didn't seem to gel together with the overall concept.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Our tamariki are 85% Māori and they know their pepeha very well, but the interaction of smaller creatures with the larger ones they are more familiar with (piharau, tuna etc) deepened their understanding of why being kaitiaki of our awa was so very import
Each term we conduct an inquiry and our local awa was our focus. It is a huge part of the whakapapa of our tamariki and they are being brought up to be kaitiaki of the awa. This kit was great in getting a deeper understanding of the variety of life in the awa and what could affect it. Great we can reuse it too! Thanks to the sponsors; our tamariki loved it.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? We were able to link the science behind this School Kit into our literacy programme, focusing for the first half of Term 3 on Environmental Science. The students enjoyed learning more about our world, sustainability and the issues we are facing globally.

What opportunities have arisen for future learning from this kit? This Kit was a great introduction into the Nature of Science, and what it means to be a scientist. We will be doing further learning around making predictions, accurate observations and carrying out science investigations.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? We enjoyed learning more about a Te Ao Maori perspective. We focused heavily on our Pepeha's and the importance of our world around us, including water. Each student created a visual pepeha which is on display in our classroom.
Loved the learning that came out of this School Kit! Great to be able to make links across curriculum areas and take a hands on approach. The kids enjoyed making links to our local environment for an authentic learning experience.

What opportunities have arisen for future learning from this kit? I would like to organise a trip to a freshwater stream so we can conduct all of the tests. This will be a major undertaking however, requiring transport, parent help, RAMS etc.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Through exploration of our pepeha and discussion of the importance of rivers, lakes, oceans etc. Discussions of kia moana and kai awa and the impact of water on other sources of kai.
The kit was a fantastic resource and supported students to develop their understanding of monitoring the health of fresh-waterways. We had rich discussions about the importance of water for people, flora and fauna and maintaining healthy waterways. However, we really struggled to find a body of water that would be suitable for the investigation. The only body of water we could access was a stagnant man-made pond at the local golf course. It meets the criteria given on the kit sign up information (fresh water more than 10 metres long) but we were not able to conduct many of the investigations in a meaningful way. It would have been helpful if the initial information sent out to teachers had made clear that we would need to access a stream (not just a body of water 10 metres long). If I had known this I would not have signed up for this particular kit as we do not have easy access to a flowing body of freshwater appropriate for the investigation anywhere close to our school.

What opportunities have arisen for future learning from this kit? We would like to test a different creek (perhaps a worse off one) as ours was quite small and it was difficult to carry out some of the tests. We would like to measure poor water quality to gain an understanding of the inverse experience.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? We use the local harbour to swim in. Our local streams (Styles Creek and Smith's Creek) run into the harbour where our kids and community swim. We are self-designated Kaitiaki of this waterway and it gave the students a deeper understanding of having an a
What an excellent piece of kit. We have a Schmack Kit already but this is very difficult for younger students to use. The kit was well-made, and teh resources were extremely easy to follow.

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? The most significant cross-curricular link was in analysing the data - I don't think we've spent enough time on statistics this year! The students did enjoy the measurement olympics for practising measuring accurately.

What opportunities have arisen for future learning from this kit? It would be great to have followed this up with an action plan for our local stream environment but we ran out of time. It was good to see the students picking rubbish out of the section of stream that we were working in.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Having just finished working on our mihi, this was very relevant and we had a robust discussion about the importance of water as a food source and transport medium to early maori.
The kit was great for our year 7/8 classes. The links were worthwhile and helped to give context to the kits, particularly after the amount of media coverage regarding water quality in recent years. The equipment to complete the sampling was sufficient although we had to chase several marker flags that escaped downstream! (user error) We did a dry run of the stream visit in the classroom, chalking a stream on the carpet. This proved a good opportunity to explore the tools and methods required. We really enjoyed the kit, although would have enjoyed it more in summer :)

What cross curricular learning came about as a result of this kit? Although I was not able to full maximise the cross-curricular learning opportunities with this kit, the links to Te Reo Maori and also maths allowed for some deep learning in my class.

What opportunities have arisen for future learning from this kit? The links to many different areas of the curriculum are powerful, particularly with Te Ao Maori. I will be using this kit next year with an inquiry topic that it fits better with and allows for more time spent using all this kit has available.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? This kit has a huge amount of resources that have allowed my class to understand the cultural links. I would have liked to have explored this further but due to timings with the school year it didn't quite happen as in depth as I would've liked.
This was a great hands on experiment for all students to get involved in. The whole class loved getting involved and were able to fully participate and learn about the environment around them.
