In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? It allowed the to children to recognise the importance of looking after our waterways not just for cultural reasons but for the needs of everyone, either for food, recreation or biodiversity. Many of them did not know how significant water was culturally.
A great kit that offers some many different learning opportunities for the children. Although we are yet to do our actually testing yet due to Covid, the children are really excited about all the different things we have been able to do so far

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? It deepened the knowledge that we had been learning already. our unit sharing the planet fit in so well with the water testing as we were able to link how the Maori used and looked after water in comparison to how people use and look after it now.
The water testing kit was a great success, children loved the range of testing equipment and the results. We completed our testing in Lake Pupuke so couldn't use the water speed test but we had fun using the others. Looking forward to using it again next year with a new group of children.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Great to link the kit to the importance of water in our identity as kiwis.
We haven't had time to go on our river trip yet but have it all planned for Week 7 this term. Our students enjoyed the activities leading up especially the science and looking at the invertebrates. We have based all our literacy around this topic this term. I will add photos to the facebook page when we go on our trip.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? There were elements of cultural significance that came up in discussions. This has added to the understandings that our students have taken away with them. Having Parent involvement was a good way for students to hear local stories.
This kit was good for getting students interested in the water flowing from the hills down through Thames and into the Firth of Thames. It generated lots of discussion

What an awesome kit! yet again School kit you have provided the planning and resources for our tamariki to really engage in their learning. A group of our students loved investigating a favourite swimming spot of ours - so interesting to see how good the water quality really was.

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? It helped build knowledge and understanding -differing perspectives and embracing cultures.
The children got to choose an IMPACt topic for inquiry and some students chose water! Perfect...so off they go and find a waterway near school and tested the water. This fitted in perfectly as we had also just completed fair testing so children could make sure this was also covered. The importance of our waterways is a passionate topic in our town of Wanaka so many children had a lot of prior knowledge and interest. The technical science language was a hit - Periphyton etc...

In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? We explored how we as a school could become better Kaitiaki's of the amount of water we waste, and also to contribute in a positive way towards the water shortage in Auckland.
The kit did raise students awareness and questions about the importance of water health. It was able to address some misconceptions with some individuals who originally thought that NZ water was one of the cleanest and purest water to drink (clean green image). However, the kit enable children to ask more questions about what they could do to help keep our water cleaner for longer.
