In what ways did this kit develop understanding of the cultural significance of water in Te Ao Māori? Our class is predominately Maori students and they already had the idea of how we connect to the water. Traditionally Maori would establish their families around water ways so discussing the culture significance for our students was important. We had a lo
The student didn't even know we had a stream in our gully so this was a really interesting topic for us. We had be working through a water unit during term 1 and 2 and how connect with water. This was a great follow up activity for them.

What an exiting kit this has been for our students. They have enjoyed the hands on investigations that they got to do in the stream. I am confident that students now know what the types of tests are that can be conducted to determine the quality of a steam. They have also made progress as to why it is important to keep our streams healthy. Thank you for this awesome kit, it was a pleasure to be a part of this.

This has hands down been the best school kit we have ever done. The class were so engaged. After doing all the prep in class we spent a day out running our tests at two different streams in our community. We found significant differences in the health of the two streams, which opened up so many conversations about the things that impact our local waterways. We were luck to be joined on our trip by a member of the community who works for Greater Wellington City Council, looking at our water, as well as a local iwi leader who helped contextualise the importance of water for Māori. They were both blown away by the opportunity this kit gave our kids. We feel very luck to have been given the chance to really examine the impact and causation of water health in our own backyard. Awesome. Thank you!

This kit has been so awesome to use and the kids have been loving the hands-on learning that it provides! After using the kit to investigate our drinking water in class, and the creek nearby our school, the kids have decided that they want to try and improve our school's water quality. We are planning to use this kit and all its great resources throughout the rest of the year. This was one of the best kits to date!

Our class had a lot of fun testing the health of our stream. We planned our visit carefully, drawing up a 'map' of our site to identify where we wanted to test to ensure we covered all areas of the stream. We knew our stream wasn't going to be too healthy, but it seems it is worse than we thought. We only found 2 worms, despite looking very carefully. We managed to gather most of the temperatures we needed, before the thermometer took a dunk in the water and stopped working and the periscope leaked, making it hard to measure the clarity, but luckily we had enough info to make a judgement! We got some great photos and have a fantastic display in the class of our data! The next stage is for use to figure out some actions we can take to try and improve the health of the stream. We have already planned to plant along the stream edge some time this term and will hopefully test again in the future to see if we have had any positive impacts! A great kit and we would use it again!

Another amazing kit! My students (year 8s) got so much out of this, especially the practical element. We also had a local scientist visit the class after our testing day to discuss the results and answer some of the students' questions about what they had discovered. The students have been so engaged throughout the whole process, sharing their learning in our school newsletters and creating videos to share in an upcoming whole school assembly. My only criticism would be having feedback due in August, meaning the study had to be completed in winter. We managed to go on the coldest day of the year so far, and whilst the students had a lot of fun and learnt a lot, it would have been a more pleasant experience later in the year. Thanks School Kit, looking forward to repeating this kit with future classes to see how the results change over time.
