It was great to integrate into our wai water topic. Looking at what we use and what we could save was really helpful. Kids liked the maths aspect to it, collecting, analysing etc

We havnt used the whole kit this term as I was away for a long time due to personal reasons. But we unpacked it, talked about different ways to use it in our team meetings. This will be completed in term 4.

How have your students' perceptions of water conservation changed since using the resource and did it foster a sense of responsibility and awareness in your classroom? I think it has changed and improved. Most will now say something if seen to be wasting water. Rubbish still an issue they complain about but don’t seem to make the direct connection …, yet

What influence has this kit had in promoting the longevity of water saving habits and what other water related topics did your students come up with? I think this has had a positive, longer term impact on the students' behaviour and their whānau. As a class we have continued these discussions and reminders after the unit concluded and we have helped spread the word around our kura too.

What was the impact of the daily stamping practice in your classroom and which water benchmark did your students find most fascinating? The larger posters with more room to print were more impressive for the students as they could track their savings over time and see the huge amount of stamps.
How have your students' perceptions of water conservation changed since using the resource and did it foster a sense of responsibility and awareness in your classroom? I think the students have a better understanding that water is a precious resource and the availability of it is getting harder to predict due to climate change. Being aware of the amount of water in the manufacturing process was certainly new to them and has made them think about their purchasing decisions.

A wonderful unit that integrated science, social sciences and statistics. This unit taught the students about the importance of preserving our water resource and developed habits (in a fun and inclusive way) to help for the future. Students can see their water saving progress and were able to pass their learnings onto our wider kura.

Which water saving habit/s were your students most engaged in? Using one cup per day, Tap off while brushing teeth, 5 minute showers
What influence has this kit had in promoting the longevity of water saving habits and what other water related topics did your students come up with? They realised how much water they wasted at the drinking fountains. Many students have continued with the tap off while teeth brushing, having 5 min showers during the school week, and changing how often they wash their clothes. They also tried to make use of the dishwasher once a day and not use a waste master. We looked at hydro storage lakes and getting water storage tanks for the garden. The students were also keen to look at storage of water in dams and to swap out fizzy drinks for tap water. They were also interested in filtration of water and looking at waste water treatment plants.

We tied Water Savers into our unit on Water. At the same time, my class read the novel A Long Walk to Water. A few of our students also come from African countries and were able to talk about their experiences with a lack of water and what they found in New Zealand. Saving water became quite a mission for some and has set up some excellent habits. Others found that it was challenging to think about using it sparingly with readily available water. It generated much discussion among the students and they also saw that they have many privileges that a lot of people do not get to have. Overall it was a great awareness project to get involved with.

Students like to do the stamp every morning, however, some did not do it properly, and some are just doing it for fun, not really pay attention about what is the stamp about. They told me the 5 minutes song is a relaxing song to listen. Students did not have time to do literacy or statistics about this kit, it was a busy term.

Took a bit to get my head around the resources, it was all good when I clicked to look at fortune teller to see how all the charts worked in, but needed to look at it a few times (that could just be me). Fortune teller was a hit with the kids and an engagin way for them to find out about water saving practices. It was good to hear some where already normal in some families.
