We used this as part of a statistical inquiry for Maths. The group were engaged from the get go and gobsmacked with the amount of virtual water that is used to make even simple things. There was a lot of rich discussion throughout and they encouraged their families and friends to save water as well. They loved stamping the wall images as well, racing in each day to add their stamps.

What influence has this kit had in promoting the longevity of water saving habits and what other water related topics did your students come up with? Great changes. In the classroom we needed water for the experiment on school kit site, afterwards the students wouldn't let me tip the water out! I used the water over several days to water our plants instead. We also looked at how water is used to generate electricity and what happens when the lakes are low. We researched dishwashers versus handwashing and how much water is used in comparison.

What was the impact of the daily stamping practice in your classroom and which water benchmark did your students find most fascinating? 5 minute showers was by far the lowest stamped to start with. This seemed to bug them. They did not think they could do it, but as people began stamping for this, it seemed to encourage others to do it. Loved their integrity!

The water savers kit was awesome. The graphs for the walls for students to stamp each day was a great way to engage them in the inquiry. So visual and current as we updated each day. So fabulous to see water saving actions increase across the 10 days. Great to have stickers, a playlist, a badge and a coaster to go home to help whanau make these changes too, and what family didn't love the chore chooser?!
