What was the impact of the daily stamping practice in your classroom and which water benchmark did your students find most fascinating? We did not always use these as we had a lot of kids away sick for anywhere from 2 days to 1 or 2 weeks.
How have your students' perceptions of water conservation changed since using the resource and did it foster a sense of responsibility and awareness in your classroom? I think they better understand that water can run out if we keep wasting it. That even though we think only a little amount of water is lost by not turning taps off properly, if every house did this it amounts to a lot more than they think. They are more responsible when using water in the class or at the drinking fountains.

What influence has this kit had in promoting the longevity of water saving habits and what other water related topics did your students come up with? The kids are keen to see how they can persuade older siblings to have shorter showers:) It has made them really think about how they use water. As part of the 4 Earth spheres study they were also doing, they came up with a short rap about the hydrosphere and shared it with their peers.at an assembly.

What was the impact of the daily stamping practice in your classroom and which water benchmark did your students find most fascinating? I htink most were interesting to them but winners, drink fizzy/juice, tap off, and half flush:) The stamping took a bit of time and the odd day we stamped thorughout the day rather than all at once.
How have your students' perceptions of water conservation changed since using the resource and did it foster a sense of responsibility and awareness in your classroom? Defivntely awareness with all but some students are keen to do as much as they can. It will be interesting to see how they do over the holidays and long term.

From the start my class were engaged. They were blown away by the statistics when it came to water usage, others and their own. This kit was timely as we were studying Statistics in Mathematics this term so it was interesting for them to see how the charts changed each day. When it came to discussing and caluclating how much water they had saved as a group during the 10 day investigation they were amazed at how much they had saved. It was well worth doing this.

What was the impact of the daily stamping practice in your classroom and which water benchmark did your students find most fascinating? We looked at our water fountain and stamped how often students drank verse how long they ran the tap. We decided that filling our water bottles saved so much more fresh water.
How have your students' perceptions of water conservation changed since using the resource and did it foster a sense of responsibility and awareness in your classroom? More awareness of water wasting. Water is taken for granted but now they are, "get your hand off the tap!"

This kit was a fantastic part of our water conservation unit. It was great to see students excited about making changes at home that were simple yet effective. Small steps today will impact their future.

This was complicated and messy. I didn't like the wall display and the instructions were hard to follow.

This wasn't what I was expecting. I thought it would have more maths involved in terms of statistics. I found it very disjointed and hard to understand even with the teacher's guide. It may be better in an older age group but it was too hard for my age group.

Water Savers Kit tied in well with our topic around erosion and the effects water has on the world. Students could then their knowledge of multiplication arrays to solve how much water savings were in each chart and then practise converting from litres to millilitres too.

What influence has this kit had in promoting the longevity of water saving habits and what other water related topics did your students come up with? I'm not sure how successful this will be in the long run. The students that were interested already seemed to be taking action to conserve water. Those that weren't interested seemed unlikely to attempt to change their habits. A number of students became in general 'save the environment issues' from water pollution to animal protection.
What was the impact of the daily stamping practice in your classroom and which water benchmark did your students find most fascinating? Students enjoyed this. Those that were somewhat interested in this topic beforehand found this really engaging. Others who were less interested were not enticed by this.
How have your students' perceptions of water conservation changed since using the resource and did it foster a sense of responsibility and awareness in your classroom? We are still developing the ideas around sustainable usage, but as mentioned above, they also became more aware of related ideas such as water pollution. Some really wanted to share with their families or others.

The students enjoyed the challenges created for them and some attempted different measurements of how much they were using. One astute student pointed out that we were learning about saving water but were wasting other things through the extra pieces offered that he'd seen students just throw away (badges, coasters, etc).

What influence has this kit had in promoting the longevity of water saving habits and what other water related topics did your students come up with? Students were influenced in different ways based on their contexts. Some students looked at ways that they can water the garden without using water from the tap, while others opted for showers rather than bathing. The kit also encouraged me to look for a new dishwasher as my old one was not as eco-friendly..

What was the impact of the daily stamping practice in your classroom and which water benchmark did your students find most fascinating? The smaller benchmarks motivated the students more as they seemed more achievable. Once they started adding to them, they were encouraged to try other strategies too.
How have your students' perceptions of water conservation changed since using the resource and did it foster a sense of responsibility and awareness in your classroom? Yes, students don't let the tap in our classroom drip and when they wash their hands, they only turn the tap on to rinse off the soap. This was not the case before we started this inquiry topic. They also drink water and use their water bottles.

The Water Savers challenge aligned well with statistics, our maths strand focus for the term. The hands- on resources were invaluable because they motivated and reminded the students about ways that we can all save water and money. The video and other online resources were engaging and informative too. My classroom students and my specialties students all benefitted from exploring their household water usage and finding simple ways to save water. I strongly recommend this inquiry unit to all intermediate teachers as their students will find the learning experiences thought-provoking and beneficial in future.
