What was the impact of the daily stamping practice in your classroom and which water benchmark did your students find most fascinating? Students like the action of being able to do this and again having this on the wall was a good reminder for the students. The students had a sense of competitiveness (unintentionally) around saving water and this activity encourgaed discussions around savinf water.

Students had a genuine interest in the water savers kit. It was relevant to them so they found it interesting. They enjoyed seeing their water cycle (bags) on the window each day and it was a good reminder to refer back to when talking about the water cycle.

This kit was great! I integrated it into maths and we graphed the results of the water saving methods in our homes. Very interesting discussion about how we conserve water during our summer.

We used this alongside lessons and activities we had for our water inquiry unit. Students needed regular reminders to track their use of water. They did enjoy seeing the results on the posters and this definitely supported their understanding of water use/waste.

What influence has this kit had in promoting the longevity of water saving habits and what other water related topics did your students come up with? Here’s an expanded and polished version of your comment: --- The students became more aware of their water usage, which was a fantastic outcome of this activity. It sparked some great discussions about how they could make changes to conserve water in their daily lives. However, some students found it challenging to complete the full 10-day inquiry at home. This may have been due to the time commitment or difficulties tracking their water usage consistently over an extended period. Perhaps shortening the inquiry or providing more structured guidance for how to complete it at home could make it more manageable and ensure better engagement across all students.

What was the impact of the daily stamping practice in your classroom and which water benchmark did your students find most fascinating? The daily stamping practice had a positive impact in the classroom by encouraging students to stay consistent with tracking their water usage and reflecting on their habits. It served as a simple yet effective way to keep them engaged and mindful throughout the 10-day inquiry. While not all students managed to complete the full inquiry, those who did found the practice helpful in reinforcing the importance of water conservation. The water benchmark that fascinated most students was the comparison of water usage for everyday activities, such as showering versus washing dishes. Many were surprised to learn just how much water these activities consume and were eager to discuss ways they could reduce their usage.
How have your students' perceptions of water conservation changed since using the resource and did it foster a sense of responsibility and awareness in your classroom? The resource fostered a strong sense of responsibility and awareness in the classroom. Students became more mindful of their habits, both at school and at home, and many shared stories of how their families were also influenced by the discussions and activities. While some struggled with the longer inquiry, the overall experience encouraged them to think critically about sustainability and inspired a collective effort to make water-saving a priority.

The kit was fantastic in terms of the practical items it included for students to take home. These resources not only helped promote water-saving habits but also encouraged families to think about sustainable practices in their everyday lives. It’s a great way to create a lasting impact beyond the classroom. However, when I used this kit with a Year 8 class, I noticed some limitations. The content was quite repetitive, covering concepts and ideas that the students had already learned in previous years. While it reinforced their understanding, it didn’t provide much new information or challenge their thinking. For younger students, this might be perfect, but for older ones, it lacked the depth needed to fully engage them. To better cater to higher-level learners, it would be amazing to include a more interactive or investigative component—such as a water testing kit or an experiment-based activity. This would provide an opportunity for hands-on learning and allow students to explore water conservation from a scientific perspective, adding complexity and fostering critical thinking. Overall, I think this kit is a great resource for Year 5 and below, where the content would be fresh, engaging, and age-appropriate. For older year groups, though, I’d recommend supplementing it with more advanced or exploratory activities to keep them motivated and interested.

My children were really engaged and encouraged to save water at home and school. They loved putting the stamps on the class charts and analysing the results we created. They were very interested in new ways of saving water especially re-using cups and putting dishwashers on only when full.
