“I'm 185cm tall and have used various stand up desks at work. I learned that I wanted simple controls, smooth operation to the appropriate height, white on white for that clean minimalist look and a desk that doesn't shake when I lean. Reading different reviews, it's very hard to differentiate between different brands. When it came to the crunch, here's how I decided.
simple controls
- updown desks control module displays height in cm, had a simple design and wedge shape that helps keep info in view, arrows and memory buttons. Tick.
Smooth operation
- dual motor and 150 kg, I expected a torquey feeling when lifting up. Updown is very solid in this respect. I also like to use the desk in stand up mode to around 110's. This is where Updown's Max height of 127cm becomes important as that's where you should expect some degree of wobble. I also chose updown because it had the heaviest base of 41kg of the different brands. You really feel the quality of the frame when you're assembling the table and feel this kind of quality almost seems rare these days. Designed with love so Big tick here. These factors all combine to make the desk incredibly solid at all heights.
White on white - the Melamine desktop feels fairly slippery with slight texture so not glass smooth. Feels robust and not easily scratched with general use. Tick.
