To prevent "toxic gas pollution" when removing my shoes, sandals are quite mandatory.
So I live most of the time bare foot or wearing sandals.
Problem: I can't go to work at the office (in a bank) wearing sandals...
Tanuki are the solution. That incredible washi fabric is magic!
Of course these shoes are the opposite of waterproof. Every droplet of light rain or morning dew will get directly into the shoes... but if Tanuki are quickly wet they are as quickly dry!
They are closed sandals!!!
Remark: as washi fabric is so water absorbent, you shoes can be quickly soiled with trace of "dirty droplet". If you are not careful washing your teeth, or cooking you'll be with polka-dot shoes.
But as washi fabric is so marvelous, with a brick of basic soap, a small brush and a sink with warm water... 10 minutes later you'll be back with clean and wearable shoes!y
Remark 2: the Washi insoles are thin. They hold nicely in the Tanuki... but at the end of the day with sweat, they start to move a little in the shoes.
