“Great fit . just received the pro all weather rain gear , I almost did not buy it because they do not say "good for sailing" which was the only reason I was buying it . So I was wondering if it would hold up to the conditions. granted i have not been in severe weather yet so cannot say how it will fair . but it feels better than the traditional name sailing gear such as Gil and HH but at a better price and more features such as lots of pockets, fleece in pockets for warmth, lots of velcro and zippers for access”
“Great fit and comfort. Held up well to the cold and rain. Stayed dry while river fishing in up state New York for several days. Later during the same trip, kept out the cold as we fished off the coast of NYC for stripers. Had an issue with defective overalls, staff handled it quickly and sent out a replacement.”
“Quality/durability: These would be a bit heavy and bulky for any of the 25 wilderness canoe expeditions that I've run, but with that weight comes quality and the quality of the garments seems very high. And, we are going sailing this summer (1,300 miles) instead of canoeing so the weight is not an issue. My retired USCG Captain brother, our father, and I are bringing an antique wooden ketch home from Nova Scotia. My brother and I have both tested the WindRider Pro suits out and I am now ordering our father a set.
Waterproof. Solidly so. I walked to the beaver pond behind our house and sat on the soggy banks in heavy rain for half an hour and not a drop or hint of moisture. Sitting on a soggy surface in a hard rain is a tough test. Passed brilliantly.
Fit: WindRider's sizing guide suggested XL for me which was unexpected. I am 6' tall and 185lbs and usually take Large. Nonetheless, I followed their advice. The XL does feel big at first, but the sleeves don't run up my Yeti arms which is a welcome departure from the norm, and the bib cuff closures wrap around my boots just fine so that I have plenty of room to move. All in all, to my surprise, I am sticking with the XL. With quality, fit, and most importantly, waterproofness checked, these were keepers. There are a few little quibbles:
1. The hood is a bit small and thin. I get that it needs to be somewhat so to roll into the collar (a wonderful feature), but it lacks substance and coverage in heavy rain and I imagine it will also with spray coming over the rail. A good waterproof, front-brimmed hat seems like an essential addition. I also found the toggles for the drawstring to tighten the hood to be fiddly to manage with gloves on. That will only be worse at sea in a chilly rain.
2. The collar is reasonably high for anything shy of the open ocean, but when fully zipped, it presses uncomfortably against my lower face. Could have been a skosh larger.
3. The YKK zipper is a bit fiddly too. It takes some care to keep the component parts in place while threading it together, and even then, it would jam fairly often until I put some candle wax on it. Such irritating issues can become real problems when on the cold pitching deck of a boat. Between the wax (or alternative zipper lubricant) and some practice, I'm reasonably sure that it will be fine.
So, all things considered: 4-Stars, and as of now, I think this jacket and bib set is a great value. Maybe I'll check back in after we get the boat home.”
