Amazing quality plastic gems. They look very much like glass. Bought for a nearly 5 year old to play with. He really wanted some sparkly gems, but other things I had seen were too small. He also has a nearly 2 year old sibling and I wanted something larger and not choking risk size. These are really stunning in real life. I’ve given him one per day in the countdown towards his birthday and he is very excited in morning asking for them.

Ok so here's all the PRACTICAL things I wish it said in the listing, that I needed to know before buying, and that I'm glad I know, now I own these beautiful blocks! They are super clear and sparkly, just like crystal glass. They are more translucent and shiny than Bauspuel lucent cubes. There are two of each colour and they are in very many gradations of rainbow colours, so you can make a beautiful rainbow gradient by lining them up. Two of the shades are very dark bottle green and very dark indigo blue, which I find are less useful, as being so dark they are less translucent (I could do without these two colours tbh). But there are a multitude of other colours that are really sparkly, shiny, translucent beautiful and really stunning to look at! They catch the sunlight, or ANY light so beautifully and really twinkle! In fact I am quite blown away by how gorgeous they are. True crystal treasures! They are not too heavy but are really sturdy and fantastic quality. They are slightly "bowed" inwards on 2 sides, perhaps this is to help children pick them up - it doesn't make any difference to our builds, but worth mentioning. I think it actually gives a more interesting optical effect. Each edge is bevelled so there are no sharp edges. The bevels do however mean they are ever so slightly harder to stand up - it's not a problem and does make them look more faceted and sparkly! They have a strange small raised plastic 'circle' (like a seam) on one of the ends. This does make a slight difference when balancing them on end, and I think they would look better without it. Also they vary in their 'flatness' on the other end - this isn't visible, but it means some stand up straight and sturdy and others randomly wobble slightly. We have been using them with Grimms, Tickit and Bauspiel pieces (see my pic) , and even though they are a completely different scale and obviously smaller (they are like 2 lucent cubes put together) they still fit in very nicely as decorations!

I wish I’d bought these before buying the bauspiel lucent cubes - they are far superior in every way. They have an incredible weight considering they are acrylic, and are comparatively much heavier than the sun stones which are larger. Each edge is bevelled and they have the most amazing shine to them, and reflect the light beautifully. They stand well on both the flat and raised edge, and although they happily stack in twos, you’d struggle to build a tower. One of the most beautiful open ended toys I’ve purchased - yes, they are eye-wateringly expensive, but will elevate any build. A real object of beauty - you won’t regret buying these.
