I am leaving 1 star because DHL turned what should have been a simple signature-required delivery into the worst customer experience I ever had. My parcel was marked as “delivered” on 19 September, but no signature was taken and the only “proof” was a blurry photo of the label. The parcel was not in my possession. DHL’s own Bristol depot later confirmed it had been left in the wrong building. What followed was almost 2 weeks of chasing DHL daily, broken promises of updates, contradictory information from different advisers, and even being told the investigation was closed and a claim would not be possible. Meanwhile, I was forced to begin replacing the certified documents inside at my own expense. Then, on 26 September, the parcel suddenly appeared in my mailbox with no notice, no delivery attempt, and still no signature. DHL cannot explain how it got there. Yet DHL told the sender that the shipment was “delivered correctly” and refused compensation — a response that is beyond unacceptable. At every turn DHL has managed to make this situation worse: misdelivery, failure to obtain the required signature, inadequate proof of delivery, inaccurate information, poor communication, and zero accountability. This is exactly the type of problem I paid extra to avoid by choosing DHL. Instead, DHL created it. This has undoubtedly been the worst customer service experience I ever had.
