A Patrolman came out and diagnosed that my car needed a new bearing and a new battery. He rang a local RAC recommended garage and asked if they had the parts to do the work immediately. The garage proprietor confirmed this. The following day I rang the garage to find out the charges and when I could collect my vehicle. They told me it would now be a week or more before they would look at my car –It was 9 days then not all the work was. They gave me one quote for the work offered of £87 which once accepted they then subsequently told me they needed to add VAT & Labour making it a total of £127.
During these 9 days, No response from RAC customer care or the executive office. This my second bad experience with the RAC in a matter of months. The first time management subjected me to extra rip-off charges of £197 that should have been covered by the original agreement. This time I find their garages can’t be trusted either.
After reading this, it’s really your risk if you choose to do business with them?
To clarify, after ripping me off once, my car was then taken to a RAC recommended garage on 19 May. It was there for 9 days - during that time the garage was not entirely honest with me. The RAC responded to the disappearance of my 2 weeks later on 3 June - only to say that they were not taking responsibility for the garages they recommend. Dealing with the RAC is like asking the Yorkshire Ripper to baby sit your infant daughter.
