I needed a new battery for my car. As I was a member of the RAC I went to their battery replacement website, put in my registration and their website presented me with a list of 'the most suitable batteries' for my car. As the list was quite long, I just chose the first on the list, irrespective of cost, naively believing that the RAC would know what they were talking about. When the mechanic arrived he bluntly told me I had ordered the wrong battery!!! He fitted an alternative - that he said was still not 'ideal' but would 'do the job'. 4 Months later we have a series of electrical issues - so I call the RAC out again - and this time Im accused by their very surly mechanic of having ordered the wrong battery again! I showed him HIS website and HIS companies recommendations but he just said 'thats just a list mate - it doesnt mean its the right one for your car!!' I sent him away and will cancel my membership - JOIN THE RAC AT YOUR OWN RISK - they are a bunch of amateurs trading of a 'Royal' kite mark. PS you can see in the attached image I ordered the 1st in their list of 'Most suitable batteries for your vehicle'

They kept asking for more and more information. I worked tirelessly with the garage to provide all the info that they asked for. They crossed a line when they started saying that I would have to pay for the dismantling of my vehicle and depending upon the nature of what they see... They may accept or reject the claim. So I would be £1,500 out of pocket and would potentially have to pay for the rest of the repairs by myself. This is all facts, no fiction. I have the emails to back it up. The Financial Ombudsman will be hearing from me, regardless of the outcome of the claim. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID. They're a plague.

Friendly people seem to talk as if they know what the issue is, but my car was misdiagnosed three times and fitted with faulty refurbished parts. They were happy to take my money, but my car is still faulty. I’ve decided not to spend any more money with them and have chosen to cancel my RAC membership after this whole ordeal. RAC should stick to towing cars rather than offering roadside repairs at premium prices, especially when the repairs leave the car still faulty.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY OR THE RAC.. YOU JUST LIED TO CONTINUALLY.. THERE ALWAYS SAYING ONE MORE HOUR. I'VE BEEN SAT HERE FOR THREE HOURS. I UNDERSTAND IT'S BUSY BUT THE LIES ARE WHAT'S MOST PAINFUL.. THEY LIE SAYING THEY'RE DEALING WITH AN EMERGENCY FOR THE POLICE WHICH THEY'RE JUST TIDYING UP B STRAIGHT WITH YOU.. THEY DON'T EVEN RECORD DOWN THEIR LIES BECAUSE WHEN THEY CALLED ME BACK THEY TOLD ME THE SAME LIE AGAIN.. BEWARE OF WESTBOURNE MOTORS. THEY ARE A CONTRACTOR FOR THE RAC. I PROMISE YOU ALL THEY WILL DO IS TELL YOU ONE MORE HOUR ONE MORE HOUR ONE MORE HOUR. AFTER THREE FAILED ATTEMPTS I PRACTICALLY BEGGED THE RAC TO DEPLOY A DIFFERENT COMPANY TO ME. THEY TOLD ME IF THEY LET ME DOWN AGAIN THEY WILL SEND SOMEBODY ELSE BUT I NEED TO BE LET IT DOWN FOR A FOURTH TIME BEFORE THEY WILL CALL ANOTHER COMPANY AND THEN MAKE ME WAIT A MINIMUM OF ANOTHER 60 TO 90 MINUTES. I'VE BEEN HERE SINCE 7:00 P.M. AND IT'S NEARLY MIDNIGHT. I EXPLAINED TO THE CALL CENTRE OPERATIVE THAT THREE MONTHS AGO IT TOOK EIGHT ATTEMPTS OVER A THREE-DAY PERIOD TO GET MY MOTORBIKE PICKED UP FROM THE HOUSE. 2 MONTHS BEFORE THAT THE RAC LEFT ONE OF OUR ENGINEERS FROM 5:30PM TO 1AM BEFORE THEY PICKED HIM UP. THIS IS VERY DIFFERENT TO THE EXPERIENCE WE'VE HAD WITH THE AA.. STRONGLY URGE ANYONE THINKING ABOUT GETTING A BREAKDOWN POLICY TO STEER CLEAR OF THE RAC

Waste of money don’t turn up when they say they will , I will not be renewing my membership. You only know how good someone is when you need them ! I was better off giving the premium to a charity .Uber home vehicle left on side of road !!!!

What a waist of time, rang 1.00pm then told it could be 10.00pm already moved up once. Will risk driving the car home really slowly. To old to wait 10 hours for recovery. Original time 4.50 till 7.50 bad enough. Would not recommend.

I would give 0 stars if I could but unfortunately don't have that option, the most useless lying company you will never find where to over 6 hours and ended up catching a taxi home leaving my car miles away from home great service rac I will never recommend you to anybody, hum certainly moving to AA, should have stopped with them in the first place.

Total lack of responsibility or concern for the customer from the call centre staff, in all honesty from initial break down at just after 5.10 pm in Cwmbran going to Weston super mare some 45 miles overall rescue to returning home took 19 hours ridiculous. In addition I was charged £150.00 as breakdown cover apparently didn’t include full rescue. This was a surprise as this had been sourced through my insurance company. Finally rescue truck turned up following the request by the initial patrol who couldn’t source the problem, albeit some 3 hours after the request, only to be told that I was being unloaded at Severn valley services around 20 miles away from where he collected me, apparently this was due to distance restrictions. and was to be unloaded at a service station, initial thoughts I could warm up as I had sat for the last 4.5 hours in bitter cold conditions due to no power in the car. How wrong was I, they unloaded me at services stating that it probably would only be 10 mins or so before they come to collect me as the same had happened the evening before to another elderly gent so I accepted that believing that was the case. The driver had unloaded the car and was gone by the time I realised that the services were closed with no place to source hot food or drink and had therefore to resort to sitting back in the bitterly cold car. I received a text from RAC informing me that my rescue was not expected till 1.56 am that did not transpire this was false information, I had made several calls in between to advise no show to then be told it would be around 4.30 am again no show, I contacted them again to be told it had been assigned to another company and it could be anything up to 6.30am, by this time I was frustrated not to mention bewildered at the incompetence of RAC and how customers can be treated. The affect this whole saga had on both my family and myself being subjected to unnecessary stress is unacceptable from such a large organisation who boast about being an emergency service, unfortunately they were not concerned as to my wellbeing until I received a call from Becky from the special interventions team who had just come on shift I could not thank her enough for the calls to ensure I was ok and to give me a progress report on rescue, without her intervention good only knows how much longer it would have took. Shame on you RAC

My advice is don't use RAC. Firstly the service isn't very personal .You phone up when in need of help and get automated messages. Fill this in fill that in online. Can't actually speak to anyone!!! I reported a home breakdown at 2.50pm but I'm still waiting for a PATROL and it's now 10.30pm ......Paw Patrol I think !!! Apparently there's no one in my area to cover. Also I'm NOT a priority as I'm home . I've received another message to someone will be with me tomorrow evening if that's convenient!!! I have a top policy/ I've been with the RAC through SAINSBURY'S BANK for 9 years. First time I've EVER had to call them to help me. Utterly disappointed, dissatisfied, totally unreliable when you need HELP. DO NOT USE this company as they happily take your money but don't have enough PATROLS to cover YOU

Female alone blowout on M6 peak traffic and driving rain and wind, could not get through on phones, phone system just said we’ve texted you fill a form in online. The form was not compatible with my iPhone. Spent an hour in hard shoulder trying to get through. Finally got through by selecting wrong option on purpose and finally got my emergency logged. Waited in dangerous conditions for over 2 hours! Never will I use RAC again. It should not take so long to register an emergency. One of the options was to speak to an operator if you have no cover and want tj buy some…. I got straight through!! They quick to take your money but can’t respond when you are in need!

They don't come. I couldn't wait in the car for 3-6 hours so organised them to come the next morning. Took a taxi home which cost £12.50. Got a message saying that the patrol would come between 8.10 and 8.40am. So got a taxi to my car, again £12.50. Another message, now 9.40- 10.40. Several messages later it's now between 11.40 and 1pm. I have rung and rung them. Have been told; it won't be pushed back again. It has several times. I am now waiting (for the 3rd time) for a manager to ring me back. One of the customer service advisors told me that it was my choice whether I paid for another taxi to go home, and then came back again, or sat in the car and waited. This is despite the fact that if they rang to say they were on the way I wouldn't get back in time. I have had no access to any facilities, I am 60, diabetic, and am now cold, and thirsty. At this point I have been waiting with my car for3 hours and 45 minutes and the patrols arrival time has been put back again!

I broke down in the middle of a busy roundabout and waited 6 hours for someone to come out to me. Passers by pushed me to the side of the roundabout but cars still had to veer past me at the last minute. When it was getting dark a concerned passer by enlisted help to push me to a safer position. I rang at 2.00pm and RAC arrived at 8.00pm and towed the car to a garage, to leave as all garages were by the closed, clutch problems. As a lone 73 year old woman with COPD which the cold weather was making worse, so I couldn’t wait outside the car, I felt very vulnerable. I would have expected more from the RAC. You obviously need to employ more breakdown staff to go back to the service you used to provide! Every time I got an update the waiting time had increased by a further 2 hours.

After breaking down and explaining exactly what the issue was and how we'd need recovery, we waited 3.5 hours for a mobile mechanic to arrive and confirm what I had said. They then scheduled a recovery and we had a minimum wait of 9.5 hours from when we broke down. This was in the middle of nowhere, with no food, in the cold December night with no way to charge our phones. It goes without saying RAC lost a customer today.

I cancelled my breakdown cover with RAC in July. It’s made impossible on their website so I rang them. This week I got a letter threatening legal action of I don’t pay the months of charges…. Disgusting company.

I am utterly appalled by the reckless behaviour of the RAC technician who, despite clear signs of smoke and underlying issues unrelated to the battery, persisted with multiple jump-start attempts, ultimately resulting in my car being engulfed in flames. This negligent act has left me without a vehicle, experiencing severe anxiety, distress, loss of appetite, and chronic sleep deprivation. The fact that I have to wait an agonizing 8 weeks for a response to my complaint is further evidence of their disregard for customer well-being. I possess irrefutable video evidence that unequivocally demonstrates a blatant breach of duty of care. I implore the RAC to take immediate action to rectify this catastrophic situation and provide adequate compensation for the immense physical and emotional turmoil they have inflicted upon me.

Horrible. Had a flat tyre and it took over nearly 5 hours for them to turn up. I am a female, was on my own, in the middle of nowhere, no access to a toilet or anywhere warm to stay. Called several times to get an update when I was just sent the same outdated text. Every time I’ve needed to use this rescue service, they have been absolutely horrendously long. The staff is wonderful but this company sucks.

The two most important reasons for not joining the RAC 1. If you’re a man 2 If you’re a woman You will have a breakdown if you use RAC breakdown. I can totally understand why people become so irate and upset 😠 after being told time and time again that they will receive help and assistance only to be let down and constantly ignored. If RAC don’t want their staff to be verbally abused then they shouldn’t psychologically abuse their customers with anxiety 😟 stress and mental fatigue which are the main contributing factors that cause a person to lose their sense of reasoning . The RAC are creating an environment in which both staff and members are abused on a daily and hourly basis . I can’t imagine what the staff have to go through . We only had to put up with it for 18 hours (still waiting )
