I had to wait 4 hours for a patrolman to arrive and then another hour for a spare wheel to be collected. This was in rain and cool weather conditions. I have received an apology but I am so disappointed on how early on a Saturday morning there are too few staff to respond to customers.

Don’t even deserve a 1 star. Absolutely terrible service. They think it’s acceptable to leave a woman and a disabled child waiting for almost 6 hours with a flat battery. Disgraceful service. God forbid you show frustration any excuse to refuse service and cancel the job. Will NEVER EVER use again. I got AA cover in the time I was waiting for the RAC. The AA arrived l within the hour got the car started in minutes. Shame on you RAC.

19/09/2025 - 4 hour wait - no services Day one - 2300 to 0300 hrs Unable to make contact by phone Completed form online Advised wait time 2-3 hours. Weather was good. No major traffic issues. Phoned RAC after 3 hours. Told I was given incorrect waiting time and the average waiting was 4 hours. At 0300 hrs - After waiting in my car for over 4 hours, I was told that no mechanics or recovery vehicles were available. Had to return home in a taxi. Day two - 3 hour wait RAC phoned to advise me to return to my car at 1030 to meet mechanic. Immediately returned to car by taxi. No mechanic present Phoned RAC - told no booking on system. After 4 further phone calls mechanic arrived. Waited 3 hours. Example of poor service Phoned RAC asked for call to be escalated and for a manager to return my call. Advised manager not available but one would call me shortly. Asked when this would be there. Told manager was at lunch - at 11:22. !! Never received call back. Phoned RAC At least 10 times to resolve issue. Each operator gave me a different story. The staff were incompetent. One rep said they would transfer me to customer service. They transferred me back to main menu. After a few rings, received message - line closed. Don’t be fooled when they tell you that the call will be escalated. - it wint. The wait time remains unchanged This was the worse customer experience in my life and I am 67 years old. Avoid this organisation at all costs.

Appalling service. You just get shoved in a queue and end up trying to deal with a bot/computer. DO NOT JOIN THIS ORGANISATION. They are clueless.

I have never, ever, EVER been treated with such contempt as i have with RAC. I was left oj the hard shoulder of the M4 for nearly 6 hours with 2 children, 1 of whom is disabled and was scared witless. The highways agency had to eventually tow us to the services, and RAC were meant to pay when we arrived. They failed to pay THREE TIMES!!! Hiw can a payment fail from the RAC? Then I was given a hire car to get me to my 5 day holiday, and Enterprise now want to charge me for the last day because RAC only pay for 2 apparently (even though they've let me have it for 3) but I was not told this by RAC at all. A call handler called Heather today was so incredibly rude to me my partner was genuinely shocked. In addition to all this, I was PROMISED 5 call backs from senior managers who "Are obliged to drop everything and call you back" and I have received none of the 5 calls. There's more though: while waiting on the motorway, RAC tried to send someone from 2 hours away in Wolverhapmton, even though I was between Bristol and Swindon. I was assured I was the highest priority by RAC yet I was treated like absolute scum by them. When I got my hire vehicle, I had to make multiple calls to RAC and the towing companies to arrange for my van to be collected, RAC kept telling me it was being collected and none of the companies knew anything about it. I will NEVER use RAC again. Absolutely SHOCKING customer service from them they should be ashamed. Ive started a complaint with them and when they don't bother to respond ill be going to the motor ombudsman about this. My complaint reference is CC08148457

This is the third time in three years that the RAC has let me down. First time I was left on a B road in Wiltshire for 10 hours. Then my wife waited on the side of the A3 for 14 hours. Then a few days ago I gave up waiting after 9 hours on the side of tbe A3 and paid for an independent company to move my car. The estimated arrival time shown on the RAC app is fiction, and you can see the time steadily increasing each time you refresh the app. Atrocious service. Will be using Green Flag in future.

Reported a breakdown at 4.30 in the afternoon to be told to expect help between 8.40 and 10.40 that evening. At 6pm I received an update to say it could be as late as 1am the next day. I’m in my 50’s and have used breakdown services before. I have never been told to expect an 8 hour wait. Absolutely ridiculous

Awful company, ring then say follow a link, link didn't work so had to ring again, ETA changed 3 times, later, & later, in the end it was going to be 7hr wait, im a woman traveling on her own in a strange place.no update for 3hrs, waited 4hrs & decided to drive home with engine light on because if I broke down on the motorway I was told I would be top priority. 3 month ago I waited 24hrs in my other vehicle, because I was at home I wasn't a priority, after 11yrs of being with RAC we will be leaving them next month. Awful service. Avoid at all cost.

Several phone calls before I could speak to somebody. They kept directing me to their website. Really good if you are standing in the rain on a busy road - which fortunately I wasn't. Why can't RAC just deal on the phone and give a membership card like the AA?

I’m a member of RAC and called them out for a breakdown due to overheating. There was a leak of coolant. Then booked for RAC to carry out the repair. It took three visits from three different mechanics to finally identify the problem and replace the fan and ‘pipe’. Charged me over £300 but the coolant is still leaking and I get no response from RAC whose records of the work seem to be completely inaccurate. I’m 75 years of age with mobility issues and rely on my car.

Country lane, fast approaching traffic at over 60mph, young child onboard and in darkness with no street lighting. Broke down and used the RAC app to report breakdown. Received indication that assistance would be 3hrs 40mins to 6 hrs 40mins. Obviously recovery must have been traveling from one end of the uk to another to offer a service like this is totally unacceptable. Only excuse provided by RAC was to refer me to the terms of the breakdown policy. Standing with a child at the side of a road is a recipe for a fatal accident which I have been to many. Obviously a company that doesn’t care about the service it provides. Thanks RAC

Out with my wife on our motorcycle in Galashiels in the Scottish Borders when the clutch cable snapped on the bike, we pushed the bike into a carpark and phoned recovery which I have paid for for years as part of my insurance cover. It took ages for anyone to answer the phone and when they did we gave them our breakdown address and how many of us ect. We received a text around 30 minutes later to say that it would be around 8 hours before anyone could come out to us. An hour later we received a text asking for the breakdown address and how many people was there to be picked up, 30 minutes later we received the same text again and we were starting to feel stressed with what was happening. We kept getting the same text asking for the same details. My wife had to go to a cafe to charge her phone as the battery was getting low. Eventually we got a text saying that the recovery lorry would be with us in 30 minutes, the only problem was it was at a different address from the one we had given them at least 5 times. Also they told us that the lorry can only carry one passenger, We had to phone them again and got this angry guy on the phone who would not listen to us and kept arguing about the address, eventually we got somebody else to listen after the first guy just hung up and we had to phone again. They arranged a taxi for my wife to get home. They ordered it to the wrong address so we had to phone again, my wife had to plead with them to listen as her phone was nearly dead by this point. Eventually the lorry and the taxi turned up which was good, On the way home I asked the recovery driver to drop the bike off at the bike garage, and then drop me off at home, he said no, it was either the garage or home but not both, as it was late at night by now and I was stressed out and feeling sick with all of the days proceedings I just opted to be dropped off at home. The driver also said that his company do not have any vehicles that have 2 passenger seats and he regularly has the problem of more than one person needing a lift. He said his boss does not care and is quite happy with the situation as it is. When I got home I felt really ill with a splitting headache and nausea due to all of the stress of the day. Now I am left with the expense of trying to arrange transport for my bike to the garage and so far I have found no one to do it. We called recovery at 2pm and got home after 10pm and we only broke down about 30 miles away from where we live. Also if my wife had not argued and pleaded with them they would have been ok with leaving her stranded. Absolutely terrible experience.

Was left stranded in a remote area by the RAC for over 7 hours in the dark with my two children who are both autistic. Paid for a recovery van that could pick the three of us up, but in their infinite wisdom, sent a truck 6 hours later, that could only transport one person. A complete farce, was left with almost no food or water, no duty of care whatsoever. Disgusting treatment, will never use again.
