I bought an item on Amazon at what looked like a good price. They then delivered the wrong product. Whether this was deliberate or not I don't know, but it certainly wasn't my fault. In order to help Amazon rectify their error I returned the item using the return process on the website but it quickly became apparent that it wasn't going to be as straightforward as it should be. Against my wishes, I had to install the Amazon app to contact Amazon Support to stress that I still wanted the item, not a refund. (I don't know how I could have contacted them if I didn't have a smartphone but the website said I needed to install the app.) Since I had placed my order the the price of the item I had ordered had gone up (a lot) so I wasn't going to place a fresh order for the item, all I wanted was the the exact item I ordered at the original price that I paid. During the first, and numerous successive communications with them, Amazon's various passive aggressive Customer Services staff were rude and/or failed to understand the situation and lied to me on more than one occasion. It turns out that this is standard procedure at Amazon. Ignore their slogans and deluded visions, Amazon is a company with little regard for the law or consumer rights. They just do whatever suits them. They are technically in breach of a contract of sale to me by demanding more money in order to fulfil an order that has already been accepted. They did this by using a sneaky programming trick which caused my original order to be cancelled as soon as I started the process to return the incorrect product they had sent. I know now that I should not have returned the product they sent me until I had received the actual product I had ordered. Now it looks like my only recourse is legal action. Don't get me wrong, I have bought other items from Amazon Amazon and things have generally been ok but this incident involving a high value item has highlighted the fact that Amazon is driven purely by profit. They don't give a rat's rear about customers, or anyone else. I have spent many hours trying to explain that I am a victim of Amazon's unethical and illegal policy to their Customer Services staff without success. They just keep pretending that it is impossible for Amazon to fulfil my order, even though they still have at least eight units in stock (and I only ordered one). Now it looks like I will have to take legal action to get fair treatment. Why just 1 star? Amazon would have got a 4 or 5 star rating from me for positive experiences in the past but now I know how they are happy to make their customers suffer when THEY fail 1 star is actually generous. A smaller would probably be forced to be closed down for treating customers with such contempt. Amazon customer support is basically non-existent. It seems real but it is fake. I have given up trying to speak directly to them now. I get a more useful and considered response when talking to a dog, it is certainly less stressful. In a blatantly illegal breach of a perfectly valid contract of sale Amazon refused to send me the item I ordered unless I pay an additional sum of money. I never got the item I ordered from them.
