Kept making attempts to place my orders for all of September 2019. Every time I’d go through all the processes, checkout and receive order confirmation emails. Almost immediately after, cancellation emails would flood in stating Amazon UK had a problem charging my card, and to contact my bank. I did. Bank checked my card (same one I have used on Amazon UK for 3 years now) and it was perfectly fine for online purchases. I even proceeded to place other online orders with it from another retailer the next day and the orders were dispatched. Card was charged just fine. I tried other troubleshooting options like deleting my card and saving its details again, checking my security and profile details, etc. and all are perfectly in order. Funny thing is, items not dispatched by Amazon but other sellers under those bulk orders were charged and dispatched just fine. Only Amazon ‘sold and dispatched’ items kept being cancelled using this flimsy ‘couldn’t charge your card’ reason. Contacted their customer service all week beginning 30th Sept to date (6th Oct). Three customer service associate chats and endless follow ups later have yielded nothing regarding why my orders keep being cancelled. One time I got an email response! Hallelujah! From ‘account verification’, but they only gave feedback on one (1) out of the 4 cancelled orders I had complained about all week totalling thousands of pounds saying they had to cancel it because they couldn’t verify ‘some of my information and if I so wish, I may re-order the items.’ Naturally I emailed back as this is the only workable response I’ve have received from Amazon.UK customer service throughout this whole ordeal. Asking what this information they couldn’t verify is as my card is working just fine for orders even on their platform that aren’t sold and dispatched by them; had worked excellently for orders on other online sites; my bank had confirmed is authorised for all kinds of purchases; and that I’ve used this card for years on their platform, including this year, with no issue. And what’s worse, this time they had cancelled 4 orders and charged my card even though they allege they couldn’t charge it and that was the basis for cancellation! Now it was an information verification issue? Alas! So what info is this they cannot verify yet they are emailing me through the address on my profile and have been chatting with me all week? And two, if I attempt to re-order like they have so graciously suggested I do (as if that’s not what I’ve been doing all month?), will I go through this headache all over again? Is this authentication problem now resolved on their backend because the problem is obviously their platform and not my card or details?! Their customer support seems hardly empowered to assist in anything as I keep getting apologies for ‘all the inconvenience they have caused me’ and being referred to some amorphous “relevant team that will get back to me in 24-48 hrs” and which does not, and has not, unless I keep pushing, and on the one attempt they did, only gave me scanty unhelpful auto-generated information! What is most irksome is I needed these items and some of them are now out of stock or no longer available with no promise of being re-stocked by the various vendors anytime in the foreseeable future. I have been an ardent user and fan of Amazon UK since 2014 and always waxed lyrical about their amazing and efficient service. Clearly it is only amazing until you need to contact them with a real issue! I have used Amazon US only just in August this year for several other purchases and also not had an issue. Why Amazon UK doesn’t seem to value its customers in this way puzzles me. Especially since I’m making purchases worth thousands of pounds. These are not small ticket items to warrant this level of indifference. I do not foresee a future engagement with this platform ever again after this kind of pointless frustration. It even smirks of incompetence or plain disdain for a customer. Shame!
