Jayme
I purchased an electric oven from ao.com. The experience started out great and very professional. I was asked to specify any delivery requirements (which floor, parking challenges etc.). I then received a follow up call to ensure AO.com had all the necessary details. I informed them of limitations where I live (busy street, no lift etc.) and then I assured me there would be no problem. I then arranged to work from home on said delivery date. On the delivery date, I received a call 30 minutes before my estimated delivery time from the driver who was at the wrong address. I explained to him where I lived and started berating me because there was no parking on the street. He then told me it was my responsibility to arrange parking for him and because I hadn't, he would call AO.com. I received an apologetic call from AO.com delivery team informing me that the driver was unable to deliver on the Friday and they should have spotted it. I was annoyed because I'd already explained the logistics twice and on top of that the driver was incredibly rude. I was told the only thing they could do was arrange for a Sunday delivery more than a week away. I decided to mull it over the weekend as I was extremely irritated at the time. I called back Monday and decided to arrange delivery. I suggested to the AO.com staff for them to give me 4 hour delivery window (normally a 20 pound charge) given the situation. She simply informed me that it was impossible and I would receive a text Sunday morning at 6 am informing me of the approximate delivery time. I then asked whether, at the very least they could send me the text the Saturday evening. Her response was a curt 'no' and on numerous occassions she simply said, 'I've already explained to you how our delivery process works so I don't know what you expect me to do.' Look, I know this problem wasn't directly hers but I just found the entire situation absurd. At no point did she offer any apologies/sympathy and never offered any compensation however small (i.e. is it really that hard to give someone a smaller delivery window when you offer this service at a charge?). It's incredulous. I was so paranoid about my situation after this experience. They convinced me that somehow it was 'my fault' that I live in Central London! The someone referred me to John Lewis, telling me they wouldn't mess around. I had to wait longer for my delivery but sure enough it was as smooth as can be. My advice? Don't waste your time with these guys. They keep costs low by outsourcing deliveries to third parties (as I'm sure many do) and pass on costs to delivery drivers, hence the bitter attitude. You just can't be sure of the quality of service.
