Ordered a bed on 22nd August and paid deposit, didn't know moving date so salesman put in 1st October and told us to ring in when we knew. When I rang on 18th October with moving date 26th October, I was informed that they had moved the date to 31st October and could not move the date forward. We went into the store on 19th to get our deposit back, and was told by female manager that if we cancelled the order the company policy is to keep any deposit paid. As we are in our 70's, we cannot afford to throw a large sum of money away, so we argued about this. We were told that they had tried to voicemail us 9 times, because we should have paid the amount in full seven days prior to the 1 st October date, (we didn't get them as we had to change the phone) we were not told this when buying the bed, it is hidden in small print in pages of terms and conditions. I asked why they didn't write to us when we didn't respond as they had our address, she said that's only used for delivery.
After over an hour of arguing, we rang the complaints department and asked to speak with a senior manger, the female shop manager then quickly as told us that she could arrange for a private courier if we paid £40, which we had no choice but to do. She could have suggested that right at the beginning, but no, she put us through a lot of stress and anxiety. We would never recommend Bensons for Beds to anyone.
