Just don’t do it, it’s not worth the risk!
I am writing this review 3 and a half months after I purchased this vehicle from Car Shop Norwich. I am pleased I did not write my review at the point of collecting the vehicle like I was encouraged to!
I purchased a 2019 Mercedes C Class Coupe with 20,055 miles on the clock.
I will be honest and give praise where praise is due! I went to Carshop despite some of the reviews and personal experiences from people I know, I had purchased my previous vehicle from there and the vehicle was a great vehicle, I so wish I still had it! Anyway, I wasn’t totally sure what my next car was going to be, so with the choice available there it made sense to go and ‘have a look’! I have to say the actual sales experience is good, a little pushy in some ways but to be expected. I personally dealt with Rishpal, he was friendly, professional and accommodating, this review is in no way negative about him.
My complaint started when I realised within a few days the vehicle had a fault. I was hearing an unpleasant noise from the front of the vehicle when going over speed bumps and dips in the road.
I won't go into every aspect of this and list the problems I believe this vehicle to have as it will take too long! What I will say is the vehicle went into the workshop four times in total, with three different attempted repairs for the noise from the front of the vehicle, of which all failed, No loan car any time. Each repair I felt was a fob off, missing screws and greasing bushes, yes, greasing bushes and not replacing them, the final attempt as an anti-roll bar.
During the attempts at repair, I had personally handed a letter to Ashley McCarthy (Retail Operations Manager), this letter outlined my experience so far and my concerns about the attempted repairs. I was told this would be given to Michelle Freeman, the ‘Brand Experience Manager’ and that she would call me, I was never contacted by Michelle regarding my experience at the CarShop Brand. In fact, she actively avoided my calls to her, I had to speak to Lynsey Sprosson (Service Manager) every time. I have since been told ‘As my concerns were related to the workshop and repairs the best person for me to have spoken to was the Service Manager’. No, my issue was my experience at the CarShop Brand and the fact I found Lynsey to be, should we say, I will be polite and just say, not very customer experience focused. I wanted to speak to someone else, she would have known this if she had actually taken my call or called me as I was told she would.
Needless to say, after the fourth workshop visit and third attempt at repair, when the fault was still present, I tried to reject the vehicle directly with CarShop. Lynsey declined my rejection. I was told by Lynsey that there was categorically nothing wrong with this vehicle, he is a trained mechanic and an ex-MOT tester, he has personally looked over the vehicle himself and the vehicle is sound. It was also stated to me that CarShop doesn’t investigate ‘noises’. However, Carshops own ‘Complete Quality & Safety Checks’ lists ‘• Listen for noises’.
I have had to exercise my final right to reject through the finance company. The vehicle had to be independently inspected to confirm there was a fault and that previous attempts to repair had failed. This inspection was completed, it did indeed confirm there was a fault and that the attempt to repair had failed. It was recommended that the shocks and Bushes be replaced. The whole process has been a long-drawn-out process and stressful.
I am not an unreasonable person, I understand things can go wrong and have faults, and sometimes it can be a process of elimination to find the fault. Personally, I did not expect to have such issues with a ‘Quality’ vehicle that had only done 20K Miles. However, it is how this is dealt with that makes the difference though! I obviously really liked the vehicle, and I would have perhaps persisted further with trying to get the faults rectified if it were not for the attitude of Lynsey.
To sum it up, if you can buy a car from Carshop and have no need for any after-sales assistance, you might be okay, but if you need any after-sales assistance good luck!!
