Utterly Shocking and Appalling Customer Service!
Wowee, quite possibly the worst customer service I've ever received!
I purchased a 50" TV on 29th December 2020 from Curry's/PC world online, using my mobile phone. I selected PayPal as the payment option, using their pay in 3 and the first instalment was taken from my debit card. I received an order number in an email from Curry's, to state that the order was being processed and I would soon receive a delivery date.
On the same purchase date I logged onto their chat to ask if I could change the delivery to a local store collection, but I was told that this could not be changed on their system. This was fine and completely understandable.
I waited a few days and had not received an update and tried to give them a call to enquire about the delivery date, but could never get through to a human. I then logged on to chat a subsequent three times and each time I was told that my order was being processed and that I would receive an update via email.
On the 3rd Jan 2021, I spoke to another agent via chat, and I was informed that the order had been delayed. The agent assured me that he would urgently push the order through and I would receive an update in a day, and delivery within 3-5 days.
On 5th Jan, after hearing nothing I finally got through to an agent via the phone. I was informed that due to a glitch in the system, at the time of purchase that the order would never come and that the only option was to cancel. He explained that this happens sometimes and they do not know why, and that it cannot be overridden. He cancelled the order and I received an email to confirm that the order had been cancelled AT MY REQUEST! He explained that I would be refunded in 3-5 days. I asked whether I could receive a discount upon repurchasing, due to all of the hassle, I was told no as it was not his department.
I contacted TeamKnowHow on Twitter and explained the situation and asked who would be able to authorise a discount on the next purchase. The message I received is as followed.
"Hi. I understand that your experience with us has been frustrating. Please let us know when you have placed a new order and we will see what we can do for you in terms of a goodwill gesture. For example we would be able to refund a quick delivery charge. Thanks Jodie."
So, the solution was for me to pay extra for delivery, despite there being a free delivery option. Then to run through circles in an attempt to contact Curry's/PC World for a refund as a "gesture of goodwill"- simply laughable!
Fast forward a few days, no update on the refund (surprise!). I called PayPal on 10th Jan and was informed that they had not been informed of a refund from Curry's/PC World but that as I had spoken to them last Tuesday, I should have an update by the upcoming Tuesday at the latest.
Still having heard nothing, I logged on to online chat on Tuesday 12th Jan and spoke to an agent called Akash, I was told:
"As we have checked that there was not payment captured. Please contact your bank."
I explained the PayPal payment via my debit card but was still told that there was nothing on their system and to contact the bank.
I called Curry's/PC World again and spoke to a lady who informed me that the refund had in fact been processed on their end and that I should receive an update soon. I had since checked and the TV had increased from £399 to £429 (though I had already made the decision to purchase elsewhere) to humour myself I enquired about receiving it for the originally purchased price. I was told that they could IF THE ORDER HAD BEEN CANCELLED BY THEM, I mean really? I would also have to contact them after purchasing, to then be refunded the difference- no way I was falling for that trap!
Fast forward to today, 14th Jan. I called PayPal again and spoke to a lady who informed me that they had not received a refund from Curry's/PC World. She kindly explained that lots of customers had unfortunately been receiving poor service from Curry's/PC World recently and advised that a dispute should be opened. This saga has been ongoing for over two weeks and is finally being handled by a competent company.
Take this as a cautionary tale when purchasing from Curry's/PC World online. Poor service, ridiculous wait times when communicating and zero accountability.
