The pennies you’ll make reselling things on Depop are not worth the time and stress.
In almost a year using the app I had all sorts of bad experiences, including being harassed three times in my inbox by a weirdo asking me for pictures of myself wearing a specific jacket. These happened a few months apart, showing they have no control over people who are banned returning to the app.
But the last drop was a sale in which I sent the parcel with tracking number, the buyer wasn't home to receive the delivery and it sat at the post office for 2 weeks. I warned her she needed to pick it up otherwise it would be returned to me, and so it happened. She blamed me (?) and I reached out to Depop to mediate.
I gave her a refund on the item but kept the shipping fee because, you know, I actually paid to have it shipped to her, and the post returns the parcel but doesn’t refund the fee.
However, mindless Depop support keeps regurgitating the same standard “buyer-always-right” response saying I should give her a full refund. So basically, even though I did everything right I’m supposed to take a loss out of buyer negligence.
In sum, they provide very little support to sellers while taking big cuts, including on shipping. It’s impossible to get eyes on your listing without boosting it, so be prepared to pay them twice as much as they advertise.
Maybe you’ll have a better experience if you’re reselling luxury items, otherwise I wouldn’t bother.
