I did not sell anything on eBay until last month. I have three pairs of high quality bookshelf speakers. All of them work perfectly. Since I want to downgrade my house to a smaller one, I decided to sell one pair of these speakers on eBay.
Before I put them on eBay, I tested all of them. They sound in excellent condition. When they were sold, I packed them in the original factory packing materials to protect them.
Several days later after the buyer got my speakers, he emailed me for return request and claimed my speakers did not work properly. I turn it down because I stated it clearly on eBay “NO RETURN”. Then eBay notified me that I should fully refund the buyer, otherwise, eBay would draw the money from my Paypal account to do the refund.
I called eBay manager about my story that my speakers were in excellent condition when I shipped them. The buyer then sent me a photo that showed the disassembled speaks. I told eBay his disassembly made it impossible for me to accept his return. eBay manager insisted that I should fully refund the buyer no matter what. I asked him what protection eBay sellers got when we have this case. The manager replied: the sellers do not have any protections from eBay. If buyers ask return, sellers have to take the return and refund the purchase price including shipping fee.
Finally, eBay drew the fund from my Paypal account without my permission. The seller got the full refund, plus kept my speakers.
eBay thinks it makes money from buyers not from sellers. So eBay tries to do everything to please buyers on sellers’ expenses. I am very suspicious that the buyer replaced my good speakers with his damaged ones. Then claimed they are not working, wanted to return.
One of eBay customer service people suggested me if I want to protection I should fully refund the buyer and have the buyer keep my speaker. In this way I can have a good rating. That is ridiculous to me. I lost my pair of speakers, lost $100 shipping fee. Now I have to have the buyer keep my speakers for a good rating. That is eBay protection for sellers?
Before you want to sell anything on eBay, think twice. 1) There is no protection for you if the buyer wants to return no matter what condition your item suffered: he abused it, or damaged it, you have to refund fully. 2) If you think eBay can help you to solve the problem like this, you are wrong. eBay just draws money from your paypal account without your permission. Again, you have no protection from eBay.
I am thinking if this is the case, why eBay has a NO RETURN tag for seller to use? What is the point from eBay?
The only thing I can do is to close my eBay account and Paypal account. I will not do any business with people who treat me unfairly, or make money from me and come back to bite my hand that feed it kindly.
