Maureen
I took out a policy for myself and another named driver on a single vehicle. The policy was set up correctly, accepted and paid in full. Within 7 days I received an email from the company claiming they were routinely checking details of their policy holders (despite the policy only being 7 days old) and asked for vehicle documents, driving licence along with a long list of questions about the policy, all of which they had been provided with at the time of the policy being taken out. I answered all their questions and as I received my licence prior to photo card licences being introduced I do not have one to provide so asked if there was an alternative I could provide. Within a couple of days I received a reply saying they were cancelling my policy because they decided I was fronting for the named driver. They didn't provide evidence of this, no prior record of fronting from either myself or the named driver. All policy details were truthful and accurate. The real reason there was a named driver on the policy is because my husband has Parkinson's and is permanently in a wheelchair. Due to his condition he has many regular hospital appointments that are vital to maintaining and monitoring his health but as a woman in my 60s that still works over 40 hours a week I'm not always able to make myself available to get my husband to his appointments, hence the need for a named driver (my son) who makes himself available whenever I'm not. The reason he has to be insured on the same vehicle is because my husbands wheelchair is very difficult to manoeuvre and fit in most vehicles. For example we have a second vehicle that I'm no longer able to get my husband in and out of and certainly can't lift his wheelchair into the boot without seriously injuring myself in the process. Even my son struggles due to the weight and awkwardness of the wheelchair. After receiving this email stating they were cancelling my policy I immediately replied to request how to go through an appeals process as I did not accept their false accusation that myself and my son were committing what is a criminal offence. I also requested a full refund in lieu of reinstatement of the policy as this whole situation is an error on their part not mine. I sent that email 8 days ago now and still haven't heard back from them when they state that they will reply to all emails within 48 hours at the latest. I still haven't received a refund and I've subsequently had to cancel hospital appointments for my husband because I'm unable to get him there. I've never felt so let down by a company in my life and it makes it all the worse as there's been no wrong doing on my part. As anyone in a similar situation to myself will understand, day to day life can be extremely stressful caring for your partner 24/7 whilst also working 40+ hours a week (I work from home). This whole situation has pushed me to my breaking point. This company should be ashamed of themself and I hope that at the very least, leaving this review will help others avoid finding themselves in a similar situation.
