When purchasing a new car I was shocked to find the premium quoted by RAC was three times our previous, despite being for a lower powered car and having been a loyal RAC customer for many years, with 9-year No Claims Discount. It was made clear there would be £45 cancellation fee, which seemed fair enough. Having insured the new car, I contacted RAC to actually cancel the policy to be told that in addition to the cancellation fee all of the additional options (legal insurance, breakdown cover, etc.) had to be paid in full for the year, despite having only used a portion of the policy, with no possibility of transferring any benefits. This may be just how insurance works, but it was not communicated previously and the whole experience felt rigged. I will not use RAC again.
