My car, with two passengers, broke down on the A16 motorway in France on Saturday 3 August. It was finally recovered to a garage in Amiens. To be fair the European agents for Green Flag were reasonably helpful, although they did book us into a hotel for two nights which was 40 kilometers away from our car! However, being a Saturday afternoon all garages were closed by the time we got to Amiens after a fairly frustrating and arduous time. (different story!). The car could not be seen by a garage until the Monday and even then not by the garage we had been recovered to. I was told that my car could not be ready until Wednesday, three days before we were due to start for home. Bearing in mind that we were 650 miles away from our booked destination in the Dordogne I made the decision to continue our journey by train Amiens-Paris-Bordeaux. Fortunately my daughter (who had travelled in her own car) was able to pick us up at the station in Bordeaux so we proceeded on a somewhat foreshortened holiday until Friday 9 August when I returned with my two passengers, again by train, to Amiens to collect the car and drive to the ferry port. Repairs cost over 2000 Euros, which I paid and I accept that the cost of the repair is down to me. However I have now been trying to get some progress on claiming the recovery cost of 286 Euros and the train fares since 14 August. Green Flag are proceeding at a snail's pace, depite my having provided all the requested documentation weeks ago as well as evidence of payment and complaining via their web site on two separate occasions. The latest from them in response to my last complaint is that they are .... " sorry that there’s been a problem. We’ll look into it for you as quickly as possible and be in touch again by 11 October 2024 ". That is, they do not intend to respond either way until two months after my initial claim was made. As quickly as possible? I remain several hundred pounds out of pocket, had a disastrous holiday, spent hours on trains, paid for taxis and hotels over and above that which their agents provided. All when I thought that I had done the right thing by taking out European cover. As an 80 year old, I can do without this sort of hassle and stress and having to juggle my bank accounts to keep them in credit. Will I go with Green Flag when my next renewal comes up? What do you think!
