If I could give 0, I would.
Sunday I realised I had a puncture and needed a new tyre. Looked on halfords for the tyre and planned on booking a mobile fitting Monday evening.
The tyre was competitively priced but they charged me a “single tyre supplement” charge of £24.99. In every other garage I’ve been to or had mobile fittings, I’ve never heard such nonsense. I had booked for my tyre to be fitted between 6-8pm at the cost of an extra £17.50. The whole charge came to £183.48. First problem was this was taken from my bank TWICE. So I’m now down over £360 in a cost of living crisis.
Monday rolls around and I’ve been dropped off at work as I can’t drive my car. While at work, where I am, like most people, unable to reply to calls and messages, was left two voicemails. The first was the mobile fitter asking if he could come earlier as he had finished all other appointments and didn’t fancy working quite that late. The second voicemail was to say he had a ‘family emergency’ and now could not attend the fitting and that I would need to ring Halfords to rebook. Of course, I was disgruntled and would have been more understanding had he not already mentioned he didn’t want to be working so late.
I promptly phoned Halfords in my
Frustration. When you book these things, they’re meant to be carefree and easy. This was definitely not the service I experienced. I phoned up and the lady told me there were no other mechanics available and I’d have to wait for their next available appointment. I had mentioned to her that I had also been charged twice for this service not to happen. She told me a different story. The mechanic has been ‘in an accident’ during the day and could not attend the fitting. Somehow, these stories did not add up in my mind. I explained I’d like a refund as I needed the tyre Monday and then had to rush around trying to find the same tyre elsewhere. The woman on the phone explained she would raise the refund but it’d take 5 working days to be returned.
In a cost of living crisis, lots of people do not have £350 spare for cancelled events - let alone £183 spare. I have since had no notification regarding the refund that she ‘raised’.
To say I’m dissatisfied is a huge understatement. I don’t feel I have been listened to, looked after as a returning customer, or dealt with with sincerity. I have emailed Halfords as well and am waiting their response
