I had been using Uber to book taxi rides for a while and Deliveroo to order food. My phone had run out of storage space so I removed the Deliveroo app for the time being. Since you can order food on the Uber app as well I tried to order food delivery with Uber. I had saved my home address on Uber and that was the only address I had saved. I also had the geolocation turned on. I ordered food from a restaurant on Uber and I noticed they didn't ask me to confirm the address like Deliveroo does (or even Uber when you order a taxi). It just placed the order automatically. Straight after confirming the order I was checking at what time it would arrive and I realised Uber had automatically selected a completely random address 6 km away from my home address, an address I have never lived in nor ever visited before. I tried cancelling the order but it was super difficult to find the option. The order was marked as being made so there was yet no driver to contact. At the end I managed to find an option to change the adress but understandably it told me it was too far to be delivered there so my only option was to cancel it and I was changed as the order was being process. From there I tried in any way possible to contact Uber but realised it is almost impossible to contact their customer service. I managed to get in contact with them through Facebook to ask for a refund since this was clearly an app malfunction rather an errorr on my side since it didn't even ask me the delivery address in the first place. They were really rude and condescending to me and told me they could not refund me since I had cancelled the order and the restaurant had already accepted it. I explained them that when I made the order it got automatically accepted by the restaurant (unlike with Uber drive where you have to wait for the driver to accept the order), there was no way for me to cancel it before that and even so it took me just a couple of minutes to cancel it so I doubt the restaurant had already started to prepare the food anyway. I didn't want the restaurant or the driver to waste their time and that's why I cancelled it. It felt I was talking to a bot or something and even though I tried to explain the issue they kept telling me they would not refund me under any circumstance and if I was to send any more replies they would stop replying. They didn't offer any explanation as to why the app selected a completely random address that I never visited before 6 km away from my home without asking for a confirmation even though I had the location turned on and saved my address on the app. I am extremely disappointed with what happened and doing some research online I found out this occasions seem to happen quite often with the Uber app, both for rides and food deliveries. I have stopped using their sevice as thankfully there are many other options available. I would not reccomend this app to anyone since if you were to have any issues there is practically no way of contacting them, and if you manage to get in contact with them they simply gaslight you and offer no useful help.
