My fiancé and I have loved LOTR ever since we were old enough to understand stories. I loved it when my family would read the books to me when I was just learning. I also have fond memories of listening to the dramatization over the radio. My fiancé, Bernadette, has devoured books ever since she learned to read— and LOTR was one of her family's favorites. Of course, when the movies were released it was like Christmas had come (quite literally because my family made it a tradition to see each of the three films in theaters on Christmas day). I have a strong association of LOTR with my family, especially my mother who was as hobbit-like as you could ever wish for. When the subject of wedding rings came around, my fiancé and I weren't sure what to choose. She always loved silver more than gold; as did I. And the thought of having something in the elvish script seemed so delightful— especially since the Tengwar is just that, a script that can be used by any language. Being catholic and fans of Tolkien, it seemed such a wonderful thing to have parts of the nuptial mass in Latin engraved with the elvish script. Surprise of surprises— after some quick google searching— I find that the very company that designed the One Ring for the movies, Jens Hansen, does exactly what we were hoping for! And in sterling silver no less! We couldn't be more excited. The engravings were the hardest things to choose. We spent weeks mulling it over. We knew we wanted Latin in the elvish script, but there are so many good quotes it was hard to choose. But we finally settled on parts from the nuptial mass, taken from Ephesians 5. Hers: "Mulíeres viris suis súbditæ sint, sicut Dómino: quóniam vir caput est mulíeris: sicut Christus caput est Ecclésiæ:" His: "Ita et viri debent dilígere uxóres suas, ut corpora sua. Nemo enim unquam carnem suam ódio hábuit: sed nutrit, et fovet eam," The people at Jens Hansen were incredibly helpful at every step of the process, from sizing to the inscription. We're completely satisfied with their service. Our wedding turned out just like our rings: beautiful. We couldn't be happier!
