While Kiwi may look to be a few dollars cheaper than other travel websites, they are not worth the headache. The pandemic has brought to light their unscrupulous behavior towards their customers: despite numerous examples of airlines already refunding air tickets, Kiwi continues to hold on to the refunds for themselves and only sometimes refunds pennies on the dollar or issues travel vouchers instead of the original payment type. We had our own experience in that we had air tickets from Canada to Australia by way of New Zealand. Australia and New Zealand both closed their borders to incoming travelers and Air New Zealand cancelled the flights. Leading up to our flight dates, Kiwi attempted to convince us that we needed to pay thousands more to change flights to other carriers despite knowing that we weren’t physically able to enter the country. Despite the flights being cancelled by the airline, Kiwi continues to insist that we accept pennies on the dollar in refunds. The airline won’t deal with us as they insist we must work through Kiwi yet Kiwi won’t budget nor will they answer the phones or much of our correspondence. You are much better off paying those extra few dollars to book directly with the airline and have the peace of mind that the airline will act in a more professional manner when it comes to issues such as this.
