I just wanted to warn people about buying from www.lootcrate.com - they are very shady and unethical, and should not be trusted. They are a USA-based vendor out of California and focus on pop-culture themed goodie boxes. This is not a review of their products, but of their service and business conduct. I placed an order in mid-July. After waiting a month and a half for the items to ship (because they are "busy"), I received two tracking numbers. My orders were ~$17 and ~$12 respectively, plus shipping. I paid in full via PayPal. When I received the tracking number (Canada Post) it indicated the order was shipped COD requesting $17 and $14 for each package on delivery. Given the orders were already paid in full, I was concerned. Upon contacting LC they provided the below responses. Best I can interpret is that they are trying to pass along their additional costs to me. After checking out I should only be responsible for the amount they collect (which should cover all their costs), and potentially duty/taxes by the courier as it enters Canada, which will be paid to and collected by the carrier. This COD fee is quite clearly a cash grab in addition to the invoice amount. If I am not mistaken, this is the equivalent of Best Buy or any other retailer shipping your items after you pay then demanding a COD fee because their product actually cost them more when they imported it this time round. Watch out, these guys are a bunch of crooked scumbags. Here are some updates. They are trying to charge me a COD fee to collect my item as it cost them "additional costs" to get the items. I have never had such a terrible experience in taking well over a month to actually ship the item, then try to charge me additional fees and try to pass it off as "duty" on my end. George N. (Loot Vault) Aug 29, 7:33 AM PDT Hi - The COD charge in question is a VAT fee imposed by customs and the shipping vendor and was not included as part of the charge billed at the time of purchase. This happens occasionally with some Loot Vault items and I do apologize for this confusion and inconvenience. The charge itself is not an issue usually with orders tied to Loot Crate subscriptions; we are able to offer reimbursements for these fees when imposed on a shipment from a subscription because the VAT fee is 'built' into the membership fee billed to you as part of your subscription plan. This is not a part however of the individual purchase price billed on purchases made on the Loot Vault gift site. This is likewise noted on the Loot Vault site under the "How It Works" section. I'm very sorry for the confusion and any inconvenience or frustration it has caused; unfortunately we are not able to control how strict customs agencies will be in any country nor the fees they may impose on incoming shipments. For future orders if you do not wish to pay this fee you can refuse the shipment and it will be returned to us; once received at our warehouse our returns team can issue a refund for the cost of your order back to you. I can assure you we are working every day to improve this process and I have forwarded your comments to our management and shipment teams for additional review and consideration as we continue to develop a resolution for this specific issue with Loot Vault orders. Once again our apologies; please let us know if we can be of any further assistance. Thank you. George N. Loot Vault- Customer Support Lootcrate.com/help George N. (Loot Vault) Aug 30, 7:22 AM PDT Hi - I'm sorry to hear this. I assure you my reply was in no way intended to suggest or imply anything other than to provide as much information about this matter as possible. My apologies if my previous message was not received in the manner it was intended. Unfortunately, we do not pay the COD charges up front; the charges are assessed by our Carrier as they pass through customs and then those costs are passed along to you the Looter. My sincerest apologies that this was not made clear on the Loot Vault site. We are always looking to improve the Looter experience, and I will make sure to pass along your feedback to our management, fulfillment and shipment teams respectively. As indicated however this is not a fee imposed by Loot Crate but rather one determined by the shipping vendor making the delivery to you. If you do not wish to pay this fee, as noted you are welcome to refuse the shipment and once received at our warehouse we can issue a refund for the original order to you at that time. Once again my apologies for this misunderstanding; please let me know if I can assist with any other questions or concerns about your order. Thank you. George N.
