I left octopus energy in January and suddenly received a bill for £433 in September. They withdrew £433 and charged £178 for 17 days of usage (1st - 17th) In January based on estimated readings, which were over estimates as I showed them a picture of my reading in February that was a few hundred kWh lower than their Jan 17th reading.
The estimated readings by the way were supposed to have been put to an end since they installed THEIR own smart meter which was working fine until the end of the contract magically.
I’ve been consistently emailing and given the run about with excuses of, “we can’t find the complaint. We’ve passed this on to another department. The read dispute will take weeks. What’s the account number? Hello this is new person XYZ I’m sorry I can’t find the account and complaint”.
I was supposed to have been credited with £214 off the £433 bill due to a billing error, yet I haven’t received anything and I’m still £433 out of pocket.
The whole industry needs investigating into unethical business practices as it isn’t just octopus energy, they’re all at it.
