I booked a flight through Opodo, and later that month I received an email telling me that my ‘complementary Opodo Prime account would be automatically renewed for around £60’! As I had never signed up for this in the first place, I obviously tried to cancel it immediately. I first tried their ‘recommended method’ of the app: after going through about half a dozen pages of ‘WARNING’ and ‘ARE YOU SURE?’ against cancellation, then the page would freeze and the ‘cancel my subscription’ would not work. After trying this a few times with no further luck, I tried to cancel online, following their instructions (which, incidentally, claimed this to be ‘very easy’). Again, on the final step I kept getting ‘sorry, we have encountered a problem’, rather conveniently. I tried this for a couple of days, with the same result. I then tried their chat bot facility: when I clicked on their ‘easy to cancel’ button, it kept taking me back to the beginning of the chat. Eventually, I tried the ‘VIP prime service’ number that they quoted on their email, which was actually incorrect. I searched online and found the correct number, which I rang. After holding on for over 35 minutes for their ‘VIP service’ (!!!), the agent again tried all the ‘are you sure ?’ and all sorts of stalling and delaying tactics, eventually agreeing to cancel this. The call took me over an hour overall! This is an unacceptable con, trying to blindside people to signing up to this useless service, and then do everything possible to prevent you cancelling. It is surely illegal??? Anyway, AVOID AT ALL COSTS: IT WILL COST YOU, LITERALLY!!
