Took my cat to see them with problems pooing and had vomited a few times.
I paid a consult fee to see what I thought was a vet (was a nurse and she was new). From the minute I took him in she seemed more concerned that he may bite her then covering all bases. She even had the previous animals record up on the screen and couldn’t work out why his weight was way off. I wasn’t offered any scans or X-rays for him. When she finally got the right screen up she says she’ll give him omeprazole. I ask if she can feel a blockage or anything and she assured me she can’t. After that she starts to walk around the side of me towards the door and I’m still trying to talk about what could be wrong. She then tells me she needs to hurry me along as she’s very busy.
I’m now outside in the waiting area still trying to ask questions for reassurance. She then says goodbye and I have to remind her about the omeprazole she prescribed to my cat.
A few days have passed and my cat hasn’t had a bowel movement at all so I take him in again. This time the consult is free because I complained about the way me and my cat was treated.
We actually get to see a vet who takes his temp and I tell him he hasn’t had a bowel movement in about 5 days. He then gives a diagnosis of colitis but still haven’t been offered any scans.
We take him home thinking that he will start going again as he’s in the middle of a flare up.
A couple of days has passed and he again vomits but this time it smells strongly of poo. I google the symptoms and it appears it could be a blockage so I make another emergency appointment to see the vet.
He’s sent to see the nurse first who gets to decide if he sees a vet.
I tell her what’s been happening and that I think it’s a blockage due to vomiting what’s smells like poo.
She tells us to wait to see a vet.
About an hr passes and we finally get to see the vet and we tell her he hasn’t been for a poo for a week.
I don’t know if she was actually listening to me but after a conversation about his other symptoms she forgets that it’s been a week and says it’s only been a few days since he last went and I have to correct her and reiterate that he hasn’t been and what he did do last week wasn’t a lot.
I want to stress he had no other symptoms of a blockage like drooling, weight loss, confusion etc.
She again didn’t offer any scans but did check his abdomen and could feel it was bloated and slightly uncomfortable for him.
She then says we have to think about his quality of life as it appears to be a blockage but then proceeds to talk me out of an ultrasound saying the result would be the same.
She doesn’t offer a laxative or any medication that is made to dissolve blockages that could be caused by hair balls she goes straight to putting him to sleep.
We are then moved to a private room and given some time with him.
My boy looked fine and normal yet this lot seemed to care more about the cost to the business. It’s cheaper to kill than it is to treat them even though they didn’t ask for money from housing benefit claimants.
I googled the bit about hair balls after and it made me mad as the fact that he wasn’t even offered treatment. I would’ve paid for surgery but this wasn’t offered either.
Vets are supposed to care for your animals but this lot care about the bottom line and profit margins. The less they have to actually treat the better their bonuses are. There’s a reason they have got such low reviews.
