Asked for someone to come out for a quote and they agreed to come out the next day. Specified that I just want a quote only, they said that's fine. Had a phone call before the visit asking if I live alone or with a partner. Said I live with my wife.
The guy turns up and asks where my wife is. I say she's shopping and he says he will come back later as it's a decision to be made by both husband and wife.
He turned up later in the day and measured up and then the sales patter starts. NASA technology/double glazing gasses etc. Whilst I want a good product, I'm not that bothered about production techniques. He then goes on to slate my existing (recently fitted) kitchen window, asking who did it and questioning the quality.
Goes on to give a ridiculous quote of £17k and must've seen the look on my face and starts with "...but with the discount", and moves it down to £14k, then says if I go ahead he can double up the scaffolding with another local job and it'll bring the cost down further. I couldn't have been clearer that I wasn't making any decision then and there but the guy wasn't taking "no" for an answer and starts trying to play me off against my wife, asking each of us what we THOUGHT it would be and offering to meet in the middle. I reiterated that I wasn't making a decision on a whim to spend thousands of pounds but the pressure tactics continued, he said if we didn't make a decision we would never get a better price from head office. I said I need to get on with work (I work from home and by this point he'd been there for 2 hours pressuring me into buying his windows) but he didn't take the hint and continued. I've never felt so pressured and uncomfortable in my own home and I would urge people not to ask for a quote from Safestyle because their sales tactics are disgusting. They make sure both you and your partner are there so you can't say "I'll need to discuss it with my wife", it's nothing to do with making sure the right windows and doors are agreed by husband and wife.
Also, the guy thought it was a good idea to show me a signed order from another customer just up the road who he'd fleeced for tens of thousands of pounds, seemingly as a ploy to make us think we're getting a better deal. I work in the financial sector and this goes against all GDPR rules.
I hate to think how many unwitting customers sign up with the first price given, especially the vulnerable and elderly.
For the record I got a local guy to do the job for a better price but with an additional back door. There was no requirement for the scaffolding Safestyle were trying to fleece me for. Moral of the story, get a local tradesman to do it.
