Seeing all the lovely comments of how easy it is to take out your car or home insurance and such an easy website to negotiate, I thought I would add my story, as
I have not seen any reviews of people who have successfully claimed
My Saga with Saga
My letter to Saga
I feel very disappointed in Saga I have only had three claims in about sixty years not all the time with Saga Insurance 1 A sink where I dropped a spanner in it. 2 A sheet of glass in our Lean-to which got cracked and a fire side rug when it got burnt. On this occasion the first thing I noticed was water coming through the ceiling I rushed up into the loft and I am eighty three years old and that is not so easy nowadays I expected it to be a sticking Ball valve but no it was a split in the side of the PVC cold water storage tank everywhere was saturated I turned the water off and turned on the hot taps to drain the tank I called Saga and was told someone one would come to sort it out I waited until quite late and as no one had come I phoned to tell them I had turned the water off and drained the tank and to come next day. I then had to fill the tank up to just below the split as my wife is an invalid and must have hot water as Carers come in three times a day to assist me. The next day a man arrived to check it out I’m afraid he did not seem to know very much and said turn off the water and turn on the cold taps to drain the tank I said my cold taps are on the mains and he said that was wrong I said I would not want to drink from a loft tank he took a few photographs and spoke to someone at the office and then said they would not be doing anything and they deal with drains and to call back to Saga which I duly done. When I spoke to the lady at Saga she said I was not covered for plumbing or water leakage I assumed I was covered and she also pointed out that there would be a three hundred pound access to pay I put this all down to myself being complacent in not checking my policy properly. Luckily I had stopped the water before it brought the ceiling down or got onto the carpet although all the Artex was hanging off or in bubbles I thought that if I was going to have to pay for a plumber and the first access I would have a go myself, if I had known I would have obtained British Gas Homecare four that covers everything which I have now done. I also managed to find a good plumber who knew what he was doing and fitted a new tank for me. I then had to clear out all the loft insulation that had become sodden and then go to B&Q for new rolls of insulation and putting this down was not an easy task for me climbing up into the loft and laying it while looking after my wife I had to have the heating on day and night to dry everything out and I have now started to scrape the ceiling and will have a go at Artexing myself. All of this has cost me about six hundred and fifty pounds but the worse thing has been the stress of looking after my wife who has Dementia and having to sort all this out. It would be a good idea to enlighten all us older people when we are not covered for certain things and recommend British Gas Homecare four for our peace of mind.
I cancelled my car and home insurance with Saga and will never use them again.
