Whilst their sales were first class their after care has been nothing short of appalling and I would not recommend anybody to use SCS. They go out of their way to get you to buy but thereafter, once business has been secured you’re simply treated as a number. We ordered our sofa and carpets from SCS in Aberdeen mid-September for our new build. We were assured fitting before Christmas, even when we informed them that their fitters wouldn’t gain access until the end of October, early November. Their carpet fitter gained access 3 weeks before we got our keys to measure but at this time we were told our original choice of carpet for the living room would be too short. So back to SCS we went to choose another similar carpet, which was of course more expensive. Our figures now agreed (including the payment for the carpet fitters to be made on the day) we were informed fitting would be unlikely before Christmas. We complained that this was unacceptable and after much stressing it was agreed that upstairs would be laid the day after we received our keys and that the rest (except the kitchen flooring which was supplied by another company on their behalf) would be completed on the Monday (2 days later). The fitter only managed the living room floor that Monday due to another appointment and he returned to complete the stairs and hallway on the Wednesday. The carpet we chose for the hallway/stairs was NOT what was laid. This came to light when the fitter was half finished. Sadly they hadn’t checked and we hadn’t been available to advise. The carpet referenced on the paperwork did not match the labelling on the carpet supplied. SCS have admitted this was an error from their supplier and have offered to replaced the carpet at their expense. We have had to fight them for fitting before Christmas and they arranged for the fitting to take place first thing on the 21st Dec. 8am came, 9am went, 10am without sight of the fitter so I called the shop and was met with a recorded message saying they were closed for the festive period. Fortunately I had the carpet fitters number from his previous visit so contacted him directly and he informed me that another job was first on his list that he collected this morning despite numerous assurances from the Carpets Manager that we would be first as the job was a simple lift and replace. The fitter arrived 4 hours later than expected, with only two of the three required door bars that were missed from the previous visits. We were quoted 9 bars required, we only require 8 but only have 7 until a time when SCS can return to complete the work. In short 4 days before xmas and our main room still looks unfinished almost one month in. Additionally we had issues with the tiles we chose from SCS (albeit they shunt the blame onto a third party supplier) for our kitchen. We contacted SCS about their delivery on the Monday before we received our keys to ensure they would be delivered for the joiner to lay on the Saturday. Eventually on Tuesday after a couple more calls and speaking to the Acting Manager we were informed the tiles we had chosen in September had been discontinued and that we would have to come in and choose new tiles. 3 days before we were supposed to move in, but the new samples from their supplier had yet to be received. So back we went again on the Thursday night, the day before we got our keys to choose our new kitchen tiles. These were ordered the following day but only arrived with us 11 days after we ordered and were finally fitted this past weekend, three weeks after we got the keys. As a token gesture we were refunded the £50 delivery fee, yippie. Considering the amount of money we are giving them this felt like a slap in the face. Furthermore, there was a lack of transparency regarding the costs for carpet fitting. Whilst we were informed that it would be free, the figure is deducted from the overall cost yet we still need to pay the fitters. Whilst a weird set up we got our heads around it and agreed the figure ahead of time so we knew how much we would require for the fitters. Imagine our surprise when the fitters arrived and quoted TWO figures, which amounted to almost double what we had originally been told. Another call to SCS who were adamant they had informed us of a revised figure once we chose the second carpet. This was certainly not the case and why would it change for simply a different carpet in the same sized room? Overall the whole experience has been terrible. SCS incentives were great to lure us in (discounted sofas, 20% off carpets, “free” fitting) but the hassle thereafter and the multiple visits (across town, during rush hour with a sleeping child to speed up orders) coupled with having to change our original choices to suit their stock was incredibly frustrating and disappointing. Moving house is particularly stressful, even more so so close to Christmas and SCS have gone out of their way to make it even more stressful. We have friends and family moving home recently and in the near future who have asked our recommendations and we have been blunt in our assessment of how pathetic SCS have been and they will not be coming to you as a result.
