The warranty is not what it seems! I was devastated to find that that the beautiful love chair I purchased from SCS had begun to come apart, staples are sticking out of the left hand central line where the chair arm and body meet on the exterior, as it was evening I was determined to contact SCS as soon as physically possible. The next day I made a phone call to ‘Furniture After Care’ department, praying that my 2-year warranty had not expired. After speaking to the lady advising she said it expired in 6 days time… perfect. As I went to book in the work to be done, she told me there would be a £75 call out charge…?! How is this possible with having 2-year warranty on the sofa? That price is extortionate, I may as well pay someone to repair it. What is the point in having a 2-year warranty if they are going to charge me anyway? The reason for warranty is so a customer is satisfied that they will be covered for faults with the sofa, to give themselves security and peace of mind that they are making an honest and worthwhile purchase. I was then advised in the contract, which may I add is not discussed in store there is a clause “11.4. You will have to pay a call out charge of £75 including VAT if you wish to make a warranty claim at any time on or after 12 months from and including the date of delivery of the products” A bit extreme but to get my point across I offered to bring the chair into store, as it is a 'call out fee' surely there would be no charge? therefore not requiring a 'call out fee' and to be fair the cost of getting the chair to the store is would be less than the actual call out fee. In response SCS informed 'the £75 is a charge for someone to come and assess the furniture. Any damage that is then found to be of a manufacturing fault we would then repair it at no further cost to yourself' So actually you are paying someone to look at the product to potentially not even do the work on it, I would like to clarify that this is not a tear this is staples falling out of my chair, this is a defect and if I had a child that would be a dangerous circumstance but I do however have a dog so therefore did not want to incur vet bills should the dog cut himself or even eat the staples, and the fact that I am under warranty of which was sold to me at 2 years. I can confirm to all future customers it is in fact a 1 year warranty with a further 1 year of paying a charge for someone to 'assess' and maybe not fix the product. I can assure you I was not satisfied and I certainly don’t feel like I have been given the level of customer service expected from such a large company like SCS. I just wanted to inform anyone who is potentially going to purchase from SCS so they do not have to experience the same issues I have experienced. No conclusion was found.
